I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace II.
it was working fine -- sluggish as hell, but working -- yesterday.
today I can't get on wifi (my computer can). my flatmate's Android also cannot. same problem -- says signal strength is strong, but lags in getting the IP and ultimately concludes 'out of range' and disables.

have googled around, tried Wifix and wifi analyser, didn't work. looks like most people are saying 4.1.2 firmware is to blame. talk of factory resets and backups

...amusingly I plugged in the USB and tried to do a backup but it said I need wifi on to do this. ...no wifi is why I need to backup and reset, of course.  grr.

anyone had this problem? is it firmware? is it a virus? what should I do?

Did your firmware actually get updated? You would have had to accept it, it wouldn't happen silently.

If it's both you and your flattie.. have you tried resetting your router / access point or has anyone changed any settings therein?

So multiple devices (your phone & your flatmates) have failed to connect to your wifi? Did you try restarting the wifi access point / router?

hmm, thought I'd posted an update last night.

it's working again. both of our phones. so apparently none of the tweaks and uninstalls I did were worth the bother. it now connects almost instantly.

of course. before messing with the phone itself.

I don't know for sure my firmware has changed. I either had 4.1.1 or 4.1.2, can't honestly remember if I've had 4.1.2 all along, but it is set to auto update, and I've only been notified with the option of updating things like google+, not firmware, AFAIK. googling about this problem it just seems like a lot of the problems were associated with the upgrade in firmware.

nothing has changed with the modem, and apparently there was no interruption to service for the iPhone in the house.

Long-press on the WiFi connection in the settings on the phone, "Forget" it, then re-add it. Sometimes works.

didn't help. was the second thing I tried (albeit by accident).
