Hi guys,

So my Galaxy S3 has probably fallen victum to water damage (doing the last round of "hope this works" fixes), needless to say I'm a bit bummed about it because given the close proximity to Christmas my funds are pretty well drained so a like for like replacement isn't likely. So I'm wondering what some good deals or decent phones are in the lower end of the spectrum (under say $400).

My main priorities are can handle emails, web browsing and the odd cool app. Not much I know but I aslo want/need this packaged in something that feels smooth and intuitive. I'm used to using my old Galaxy (RIP) as a scaled down tablet but definitely don't need to do that with a replacement. So far my browsing has concluded that the Moto G is pretty good (delivery delay is my only worry) and the Nokia 520 (not android and friends have regretted getting windows phones). Hopefully someone out there has some suggestions? If not thanks for reading anyway :)

Cheers,

Kurt.

How much under $400? $439 is the S3 price at Smith City/LVMartin or Warehouse slightly more.

I would prefer south of $400 but that's a pretty good price for S3's

Any idea what is a "reasonable" price for a Nexus 5 pre-shipping? I've never imported before but I imagine tax and shipping can bump up what seems like a good deal.

If you hunt around you can get the Sony Xperia SP for well under $400.

Geekzone price search shows a number of sellers with prices under $400 for both the 3G and 4G models. Some as low as $334, but watch out for the "plus shipping" in the sale price.

my Ace 2 was under $200. the main downsides of it are the low CPU/RAM specs and the poor quality video/photo camera and VGA front-facing cam.
sounds like the only disadvantage that would concern your needs is that the Ace 2 screen is 3.8, your S3 was 4.8. otherwise it should be good for what you want to do.

HN have 500 2 Degrees S3 for $380 ish. Probably points to what 3G S3 prices are heading to. If you have anything invested in s3 stuff might be worth waiting.
