Recently this has started to bug my OCD again ...

Anyway - I want to update some apps but will not grant/allow them to have all the stupid permissions access to my life!

So I am seriously looking at flashing my Galaxy S4 9505 4.2.2 to something that supports app opps ... is it worth it? Does it work as fluidly as it should?

Isn't there an official 4.4.2 for the i9505? There is an apk to enable AppOps on .2 which I'm using. It works really well.

Like I said it works, someone compiled the AppOps apk from 4.4 source and you just flash it or copy to /system and it works as it did previously.

Download the apk from here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9O_54T5-obYVVVmaTNoUVZvbEU/edit?usp=sharing

Copy it to /system/priv-app/ and set permissions to rw-r--r--. Reboot and you'll have an AppOps shortcut in your launcher.

Another option is to install Xposed framework and use the xprivacy module. Rather than blocking permissions it just feeds the app dummy data so you don't need to worry about force closes. I'm not sure if App Ops does the same thing, but either way it's an alternative if you can't get app ops on your current rom.

Try this link instead. No idea if it will work on <4.3. You can try, I doubt it could hurt.

I'm sure Brad is trustworthy but does anyone else see the irony in joker obsessing over app permissions yet has no issues downloading an APK from someones google drive

on another note i actually wonder how effective app ops is ...

i told it top stop apex launcher and disable increasing ring from displaying notifications and they carry on with their notification

probably a gimmick feature giving everyone false security

No it was a feature used by Google for testing that wasn't supposed to be accessible and also incomplete. There's nothing gimmicky about it.

Also from my use of it, it has been 100% effective.

Have you upgraded to 4.3/4.4 or are you still on 4.2?
