I have a Nexus 4. I recently dropped it and smashed the screen which I replaced at considerable cost. Phone was working fine after that but recently has started acting odd. When I make a call, the screen goes off even if I don't have it near my face. I assume the proximity sensor is playing silly buggers. Holding down the lock button occasionally flashes up the screen for a split second but then it goes black again. I am unable to do anything until the person at the other end hangs up. This is particularly annoying when calling an automated service as I have to wait for it to time out and hang up on me before I can do anything.

Anyone heard of/seen this before? The repair place only had a 30 day warranty and this started happening after that typically... Not sure if it's even related but it didn't do it before that and was fine straight after so seems odd...

Almost certainly the proximity sensor. I had exactly the same symptoms when I put a 'cover' sticker on a phone that covered the prox sensor slightly. In my case it was simply a matter of cutting back the sticker. I assume yours was damaged when the screen was replaced, or possibly just shifted slightly out of position so it is permanently 'triggered'.

Have you tried restarting it and if that didn't fix it a factory reset?
