I used to be able to run TVNZ on demand on my Galaxy Nexus (so made by Samsung) but it had to be side loaded. This was on 4.3.

I have upgraded to a Nexus 5 and now the app doesn't work. It just time out.

I wonder if 3Now runs on other devices apart from the Samsung ones but since you can't download the app from the store with a non Samsung phone it's hard to find out.

Has anybody been able to run 3Now on a device other than a Samsung by sideloading the app?

I've managed to get hold of the APK file. You can download it from here.

It's very hard to say whether this will work correctly on other phones or not. I've installed it on my S4, which is running a custom KitKat firmware, and have trouble with it. Firstly, it doesn't like rooted devices. If you've got root, you'll either need to temporarily unroot or install some sort of root hider. Secondly, I can't get the actual video to play. I can play the ad before the video, but it's hidden behind the static capture from the clip. The app crashes when the ad is done.

Give it a go and post back with your results.

Thanks. Got the file and loaded it (stock N5).

The app comes up and I can see the program listings like you.

But I press Play I see the full screen video with a large Play button and audio but a static image. I press the Play button I see the actual programme briefly and then it goes back to the static image. Then the 2D ad plays over the image.

The app doesn't crash though.

So not so successful but not a big deal since I don't watch any on demand on my phone anyway.

Still it would be nice if I were killing time in the mall or something :-(

Going to try on my son's GN which while not Samsung branding per se was made by Samsung and is running 4.3, not 4.4

With my S4 on a 4.4.2 GE rom I can hide root from the app with xposed but can only get it to play 2D adverts by tapping the play button far too many times. It never actually gets to the playback of the episode no matter how many times I press play.

I've run it successfully on my Samsung Galaxy 8.9 which is running 4.0.4 (or is it 4.0.2).

Not surprising given Samsung devices are the supported ones.

We are trying to side load since the app does not show up for us in the Play Store.

The ondemand app is on the play store and happily loaded on my ancient (by tech standards) TF101, but then refused to open because it's rooted. But I was surprised it appeared on the playstore considering that I am running a custom 4.3.1 rom on it.
I tire of the games Samsung are playing, and then there's the smart watches that only work with Samsung handsets.
Just keep building that walled garden, Samsung. Brick by brick, S-app by S-app.

edit: fixed Note generated typos. Wish Samsung would spend less time at the Oscars and more time fixing the crap auto correct on my Note 8.

I just tried on my rooted TF701 using Xposed to hide root.

It comes up okay but as soon as I try to play a video, it says I need an Internet connection!  This is a bit strange since I would not have been able to see the programme listings without the connection.

Giving up as too hard now.

I couldn't find the app in the Play store but sideloaded it onto my son's TF101. It works fine, surprisingly.

Who knows what the TV3 developers did.

OT: I'm getting a bit concerned by the way developers seem to only push quite a number of things out for Samsung devices now. It seems Samsung are quite heavily investing in ensuring a captive market. I'll PM you re your Android version...

Back on topic: 3Now won't run on either of my devices as they're both rooted. TF101 with Android 4.1.2 (Cyanogenmod 29/09/2013 Nightly - no more since then) and Note II LTE with Android 4.4.2 (Cyanogenmod M3 release). Even tried using an app called Hide My Root with no difference. Watch bugger all TV anyway (especially TV3) so doesn't actually make any difference to me.
