I just bought Amicroe Touch Tab S from Harvey Norman because someone at whirlpool says it comes already rooted so I don't have to risk bricking it by rooting it myself.

I'm trying to verify whether it is rooted by following some instructions I got off Google. I downloaded Android Terminal Emulator and run it. It gave me $ prompt. Then I type in "su" and it gave me a # sign.

Does this prove beyond doubt that it is rooted ? Are there any commands I can run to confirm that it is rooted?

What are the cool things to explore with root?

Usually using su will indicate root. Any apps that require root and work will confirm that you have root.

In terms of what you can *do* with root, mostly it's around system maintenance, direct access to hardware and such. Most of it is not so much "cool" as much as "useful".

Most things that used to require root have now been exposed by Google. For example everyone needed root for screenshots under gingerbread and below, now it is exposed and available without root. Backup programs that back up userdata require root, but developers have come up with ways of backing up devices without root access as well. It just enables low level access.

There are a few things i use root for:

Cerberus: The best anti theft, factory reset proof so I can find the phone even if the theif factory resets it

Titanium Backup a good way to backup everything (googles built in backup isnt great)

Sometimes apps like AFwall to block apps from accessing internet

And just being rooted in general to mess around with stuff
