Are their numbers after the 021/027 the same? That's kinda cool. Try putting +64 at the start of the number, shouldn't help but might.

Alternately get a different app - textra or similar.

What about adding +64 to just one number?

But as Timmmay already said, maybe try a different text app.  I currently use Textra and it works a treat.

Using +64 on only one still doesnt work :(

Does textra give you the same looking notification in the lock screen as the standard one?

It's been years since I last used the stock messaging app, but I imagine the Textra notifications are similar.

Hi,
Have you checked where the texts are going. I am able to duplicate the issue and have just done a test on a  S4 mini. My finding is that even though the name displays incorrectly the tests do get delivered Correctly.

Laurie.

Edit,
I also note that they display as separate threads even though they show as going to the same person

The problem here is related to how Android matches phone numbers. The algorithm looks at the last N digits, where N is a variable controlled by the firmware creator. In Samsung's case it looks like they've gone for 7 digits, which means that it's not looking at the area code part of the number.

Using a third party messaging app may make a difference, or it may not. Most messaging apps still use the core Android messaging store, and if the number checking happens the message store itself then you're out of luck.

There is a way to change the number of digits, but it requires root access to your phone. This will void your warranty on any phone, and will cause extra issues on the S4 thanks to Knox.

This may end up being a problem that you just have live with.

Nope. Only Samsung's messaging app will give you those lockscreen notifications & the Touchwiz badge counters. That's why I continue to use it.
