Hi,

I have an "international unlocked" Galaxy Note 3 (sm-n900) which I was given as a gift from my family in South Africa.

I noticed on Samfirmware that there is a 4.4.2 update available (http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=28195).

Would I actually ever receive this update OTA? Im not sure if this model is even sold here (it doesn't have 4G for example).

Or should I just update using ODIN - which Ive used in the past on my 8.9 Galaxy Tab.

Thanks

What does *#1234# tell you your CSC is?

Whatever it shows is what "Region/Carrier" your Firmware is.  You phone will receive the upgrade whenever that carrier receives the upgrade.  There isn't a true International Version that I'm aware of (there isn't for the Note II, for example).  All firmwares are associated with some carrier, that doesn't necessarily mean the phone has any bloatware etc.

Anyway, the Firmware will be offered if/when that carrier gets it.  Your physical location doesn't matter.

I would avoid ODIN because I've read that with the later KNOX enabled firmwares, even using it will trip the KNOX counter.  Of course, you may not care about that, but it's a one-way street (The counter is an e-fuse that's blown)

Not sure if you will get an ota update. But if you use samsung kies you should get it. My note 2 is a parallel import ex singtel (singapore) and I got a 4.3 update Ok via kies. I saw some comments about bugs or 4.4.2 and some suggestion that 4.4.3 might be coming instead, so check that before diving in.

muppet, it says;

AP: N900XXUCMK2
CP: N900XXUCMK1
CSC: N900OJVCMJ3

I will try Kies, I wasn't successful using that last time with my 8.9 Tab. I thought the physcial location was a factor in getting OTA updates. Thats why I ended up flashing my 8.9 Tab with ICS after waiting for the OTA update which by all account never arrived in NZ.

Thanks

It seems you have a Kenya (Zain) - DKR phone.

Looking here (at the live feed bit) they haven't released the update for you yet.

So your only way to upgrade would be to use ODIN, or wait patiently :)

Thanks muppet, I think I will wait a bit longer then. I've got other devices to play with that have KitKat already :D
