Just bought a Samsung S III  LTE phone from one of the shops selling parallel imports. I heard that Samsung S III have different configurations for different markets.  The box says 1.4 MHz Quad core.
How do I verify that it really has quad core? I've checked the Android 4.3  settings "About Phone" but it doesn't contain the information.

What is the model of your phone? IIRC the original S3 only came in Snapdragon Quad Core or Exynos Octa varieties.

No, S3 varieties are either 1.5Ghz dual-core Krait or 1.4Ghz quad-core A9.
The S4 was the first in the series to offer an octa-core variation.

To the OP, it should report it's model as a GT-I9305, which is the S3 LTE, and is a quad-core A9.

Settings > About will tell you the model number ie. GT-i9305. Compare it with the chart here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_III#Model_variants to find out what's inside it.

That seems to think an SGS5 is a Sony Ericsson K750i
