My son has a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8", and my wife has (and daughter is about to get) the Tab 4 8". Samsung in the US has this: EPL-AU10WEGXAR, which is only listed as compatible with the 3. It seems nothing so far is officially compatible with the 4, which is really annoying. Does anyone know if that connector is compatible with the 4, or indeed, would any old micro-USB to USB adaptor work (and if so, where did you get yours)? There may be some special sauce, because other sites seem to imply that the port on the device could also carry HDMI.

I ask because I would like the kids to be able to use a keyboard at home and I am too cheap to buy two Bluetooth keyboards, too jaded to struggle with pairing one keyboard to two tablets, and in any case feel that a full size keyboard would be better overall.

I'm in the USA for a few more days, could bring one back for you if I can find one.

Cheers; if I can confirm they are suitable for the 4s I'll PM you. :-)

It's likely just a regular usb otg adapter, I'd pick one up off trademe or similar for the couple of dollars it will be and test that.
I've got a digitus one somewhere around that worked on my Galaxy s3 and a workmate has the same that they used on their Motorola Moto G.

The Mhl (hdmi) adapters can be different for each, the galaxy s2 mhl adapter was incompatible with the s3 but the usb otg for storage etc are universal so long as the device supports it.

Ah, perfect, that's what I hoped to hear. I'll go the Trademe route then. Thanks!

I bought one from Trademe. It was Samsung Branded & very cheap

Quality is terrible. Very poor fit into the phone, so bad I will no longer use it as I risk damaging the socket on the phone
I'm guessing its not a genuine Samsung adaptor, must be a fake.
