Now that Motorola is wholly owned by Lenovo, do you think they are going to keep up the resources to update old phones?
Even if the phones are pure Google for all intents and purposes, Lenovo would still have to devote time and money to keeping cheap, low margin handset hardware up to date when they see no benefit from doing that. It's ok for Google to do that, they see money from the play store and it benefits them to have pure Google phones with recent OS updates on them. Lenovo only makes money from hardware so it benefits them to sell you a new phone rather than update an old one.
I know I am probably too cynical, but do you think Motorola phones like the G and E will be updated to android 5 and beyond?

They have already confirmed these handsets amongst others will see 5.0 and soon, beyond that it is too early to comment. I bought a moto G 2014 because it will be more up to date than most other phones for its foreseeable life

Rumour has it the X and G are soon to undergo soak testing which is a surefire sign of looming updates

Nice, still glad I got the original Moto G for my Wife. She doesn't care, but it would be cool to see it updated to 5.0. Would be really impressed if they give a major version update or two for the price of the phone.

My wife likes her G1. Getting Android L won't matter to her at all, but will happen sooner than my S4  no doubt.
