So I was advised that the stuff news app required updating. Went to upgrade and saw that app required a new permission - device and app history (in addition to the slew of permissions it previously required). Now why would a news app require access to my device and app history, or, more importantly, why would I give these permissions to a simple news reading app?! Uninstalled. I've replaced with the mobile web site and the look and feel is almost exactly the same.

I've noticed with Stuff since there new super duper login system  changed end of last week  I can't login to their  app on Android.  Just get java crash error message.     Both ICS and Lollipop.  Guess they've stuffed it up somewhere.  sent them and email but heard nothing back..

Regards,

Their desktop website seems screwed up as well - since last weeks login changes.
Every time I close my browser and restart it asks me to login again (despite selecting "remember me")
However, although at the top of the page it is asking me to login (with the login/join button visible), if I scroll down to the comments section is shows as currently logged in and able to post comments. Seems like a bit of a security issue to me.

I don't read stuff anymore as the journalism is shockingly bad and it's basically just a tabloid.

BUT - The NZ Herald app asked for some pretty crazy permissions a while back. I wrote about it here at the time, and got in touch with them. In the end, it was a lazy developer not turning off things the app didn't need. They fixed it in the end, which is good, and now even have a page explaining why they ask for the permissions they do

The weekend update didn't fix much. It's been a trainwreck release. Don't they test? who developed the Android App?

I did the same with the Herald app, too, on my main phone.

I do have one device (tablet) that has its own, separate, Gmail account with NO contacts, or other devices...and I have these apps on there. They can have access to nothing.....NO problem.
