Hi There!

I have been given a $600 VF Voucher I can use at one of the big retailers. I am keen to get myself a new tablet. I don't mind "topping" up with $100-200 More.

I want something LIGHTWEIGHT with a great screen. Android is my preferred platform, but my kids are starting reading eggs and other things which apple products are encouraged for compatibility

A decent high res screen, fast etc..

What you you guys/girls recommend? I thought the Sony was nice but only 1080P compared to the Galaxy S which is 1440p. Would like 32gb capacity but not absolutely essential. Wifi only is ok.

Wondering if I should hold out for Boxing day specials?

Boxing day is likely to be much better than now
Sales in the new calendar year is likely to be much better than Boxing day

I was hoping you'd chime in and offer a SP3 :)

$600-800 budget and a preference for Android/iOS makes a SP3 hard sell

If the budget fits I can be flexible on OS :)

Just to repeat Apple rhetoric will you ever notice the difference between 1080P and 1440P in the real world?

I love my iPad but that is more a dislike for the Android ecosystem. $669 gets you an Ipad Air 32GB which is a grunty tablet for the money.

sony z2 tablet, is fast (2.3ghz quad) and has a very pretty screen.  its waterproof (kinda of a bonus), but waterproof does make the usb charger a little annoying as you have to lift a cover to put it in.  usually around $650 but boxing day might get it cheaper

for kids = ipad
for adults = ipad
for geeks = android
for OCD people like me = 13.3" laptop or hybrid

Brilliant summary!

We have just gone to iPad minis (upgraded from iPad 2), pick up a 64gb for about $750 at apple standard prices.  In the last couple of years the boxing day sales have been a huge disappointment, much better deals to be had/negotiated beforehand.  For kids especially can't beat the iOS ecosystem IMO.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Galaxy Tab S. Done.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Yah I am pretty much down to that or the Air Pad original since whilst the processor is bigger the battery life is less.

Picked up a Surface Pro 128GB for around $400, sure it's not that latest but man still an amazing machine and the battery life is not bad. Will be picking up a Nokia Lumia 2520 which is around $400 possibly in the new year, sure it's RT but the store for RT has improved a lot.

Loving my Nokia Lumia 1320, WP8.1 store has too many apps now, I actually preferred the quality over quantity now it's a minefield similar to Android/Apple.  A friend purchased a 1520 and that's an amazing phone, great as a small tablet too, just like the 1320.

The Sony tablets would have to be the best Android tablets I've used, the styling and materials used are great.

I've had an RT and it's a good little machine but too limited for my liking. The Surface Pro is a brick, the 3 is ok, but way way outside of price range.

If it were for me in terms of preference I'd be looking at another Fire HDX 8.9 or the Shield Tablet, but if I am considering for kids, most places prefer iProducts.

$639 is the cheapest I can find a 32GB Ipad Wifi Air 1. Anyone seen better from a NZ retailer (Not parallel imported)?

+1 for the Tab S. But if you want to save a dollar look at the Tab Pro.
