Could i get hold of a say dual core with a 80gb HD pc and install android 4.4 on it ?

Good if you like to tinker with things, otherwise just get an ASUS Transformer... Their Intel Atom-based Android tablets with detachable keyboard are really nice.

There is an program called bluestacks, a android emulator for PC's, used it for a while on a Win7 pc, seemed to work ok.

Bluestacks is probably more practical, if your aim is to run Android software on a PC.  There is an x86 version of Android but it's early days from what I gather.

Along the same lines as Bluestacks there is Andy the Android Emulator. Runs on Windows or Mac.

curious to know, what you're planning to do with it?


I was looking at using it for xbmc as a media player. I tried the raspberry unit to underpowered (anyone want a raspberry unit?) at present i have xbmc on one of my bigger pcs and running it fine. I now see that there are $100-whatever android units ready built with xbmc either on or an easy install.

Noel leemings sells a quad core unit for just $169

Hardly seems worth the aggro of building one

Does this PC come with an OS installed? I'm sure XBMC runs on any OS these days, why would you go through all these work?

XBMC runs on Linux, so I'm not sure why you would.  If you want an Android based PC, go for a mini PC like this one: http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Tronsmart-Vega-S89-H-Amlogic-S802-H-Quad-Core-Android-TV-BOX-2G-16G-2-4G-5G-WIFI-Bluetooth-XBMC-Support-Dolby-and-DTS-326822.html

the only real benefit over Linux is native apps for Hulu+, Netflix, etc. (which are difficult to get working under Linux at all) and ability to install Android games/apps.  I have this unit as our media PC (well, I mostly use Plex with the back end running on a windows PC, but XBMC + external hdd/file share would work just fine) and it does a great job, very snappy.  Recommend an "airmouse" to drive it with.

You know I think I am going to stick to what I know and buy a small format pc and run xbmc of that

raspbmc works great on my R.Pi for Kodi/XBMC. Though it is much faster running on my big windows desktop. You'd be crazy to install Android then XBMC on a PC, just run it directly on a PC. Intel NUC or a cheaper dedicated device.
