On another thread discussing messaging apps, Pushbullet was strongly promoted as a must have android app. Pushbullet is a free app that allows users to seamlessly share information between their android devices and PCs in real time, including the ability to receive android notifications directly via your PC. It looks absolutely great, but I have reservations …
I am reluctant to install Pushbullet as the app requires my personal data be passed through the Pushbullet servers to enable the device/contact sharing to be completed. The thing is, I'm not sure I want to give access to my detailed personal data to a company I know nothing about. Yes, I'm in boots and all with Google - they probably know about as much about me as god, but you have to lie down with their particular devil if you want to use android. But how many other private companies should I open up my life to? For eg. I’ve stopped using whatsapp , and do not use FB messenger, as Facebook is one company I’m keen to limit my personal info sharing with.
So back to Pushbullet. What do we know about them? Their app is very sophisticated - and free, so I am wary. We are required to pass our personal details and daily activities through their servers – servers which can be sold at any time, thus passing our personal history from one company to the next. Do we care, or is this just the world now?
