My wife has one of these bought from Noel Leeming. Just wondering if the Lollipop update has been announced for that model and if so when?  I am hoping for a OTA update, not Odin or some other more complex process that could lose all her data.

Thanks

Video of an early Lollipop build for the i9505 S4 has been leaked - Is yours the i9505 or i9506?

Samsung don't generally tell anyone which devices will or won't get updates, they just happen or they don't. No such update has been received for testing on this end yet FWIW, but still very early days. :)

It's starting to be rolled out internationally, should be here within a few months I guess.

That would be good. I think her phone has some issues that Lollipop might be able to resolve (hope)

What kind of issues? The S4 and software are well established.

Something that has perplexed me for ages.

She uses the chat apps Viber and Wechat.

Both those apps allow you to record audio messages by pressing a microphone icon and talking. Release the press the audio is recorded and sent. When you are recording a level meter appears showing the level of the audio you are recording. That works about once after a restart of the phone and then the level meter doesn't move and no audio is recorded.

I have factory reset the phone more times than I care to think about to no avail. That fact that it fails both on Viber and Wechat is strange. But the mic itself is fine since she is able to make calls fine.

No idea if Lollipop will fix it, but there is no other fix I can think of.

Is it just the level meter that doesn't work or can't it record audio in those apps?

Ah. I know it works on my S4 i9505, which has a custom firmware which is based strongly on the standard S4 firmware, but rooted. So if you want to go that way I can point you in the right direction - you may trip Knox though, so it may not be ideal for you.
