I purchased a G3 off trademe last week and it arrived on saturday. Description said bought overseas, no warranty but in good condition and it was, practically mint condition. Tested it when i first got it and the camera worked then went about installing all my apps etc. Later in the day came a photo opp so went to take a pic and got a black screen, restarted thinking that it was typical android camera issue with some other app having the camera locked. However on reboot i had the same issue, tried various things thinking i had borked it with some app install, different camera app, factory reset, new rom, LG flashtool .kdz flash, nothing worked i have the same issue. Figured at this point it can't be software related, took back off phone when i noticed that 4 out of 8 or 9 screws are missing! Crap.
Took apart phone and camera was attached to the motherboard fine, reattached anyway and restarted phone - still no go.

The front camera works fine, using xcam or snapchat, its just the rear shutter that doesn't work.

What else can be done? will ordering a new camera module likely fix the issue? They are cheap as chips (how a 13mp sensor as good as the G3 can cost $9usd is beyond me).

Oh and the seller isn't replying at this point, good stuff.

Has anyone had a similar problem with other android handsets? I dont want to waste my time on a replacement camera module if its not going to work. It has been over 24hours and i havnt heard back from the seller, if a camera module will resolve it then im happy enough to do it but if its more than likely not going to resolve it i need to pester the seller more now.

... only covered by the CGA if the seller was a business, which isn't clear from the OP's OP.

I ended up getting a replacement camera, same issue. Seller was good enough to send me a replacement G3 yesterday (new imei number etc), this one the camera works on but has the overheating issue G3's can be known for (gets upto 70degrees with just general use). Battery suffers for this reason too with a 1% per minute drop when using on my first charge. Trying it over the next day or so to see if it comes right but think im about over the G3 to be honest.

The only time I've had a problem with overheating on my G3 is when it's been stuck in a plastic version of a Google Cardboard.

Also, generally I've found the battery life to be pretty good. While I don't generally leave mobile data on all the time, I still typically get three days out of one charge.

Give it some more time before giving up on it, I reckon!

It's a little bit of a grey area imo..
The act says "Goods bought by auction or competitive tender (including those bid for online) before 17 June 2014." wonder what that means for things bought after 17 June 2014.

Anyways, looks like it's sorted.. somewhat..
Overheating's never a good sign.. however my note 4 does get a little hot now and then..
