One simple question: WHY? Spotify, Pandora and so many other legal music services are available in New Zealand. Why bother?

Samsung New Zealand launches music streaming service Milk Music

With a focus on expert curation and local NZ music

Auckland, April 7, 2015 – Samsung Electronics New Zealand today launched Milk Music a new, free digital music streaming service designed to bring Kiwis closer to the music they love.

Available for download to compatible Samsung mobile and tablet devices, Milk Music offers Samsung device holders a new way to discover music. Milk Music features a tactile and intuitive dial which allows customers to select a streaming experience based on genre, artists and music they love. And, with more than 150 genre-based curated stations to choose from, Kiwis will be spoiled for choice.

Samsung New Zealand has developed relationships with talented New Zealand artists such as Broods, Shapeshifter, I am Giant and Ladi6 to create exclusive playlists for the service.

“Music curation and personalisation is a key feature of this service and we really believe in the power of using artists and music experts to help guide our customers to great music,” says Mike Cornwell, Head of Marketing at Samsung New Zealand.

“We are thrilled to also support local Kiwi artists in getting more of their music heard with the launch of Milk Music in New Zealand,” says Mike.

Adam Holt, Chairman of Universal Music Group New Zealand says he’s also excited about the launch of Milk Music TM and recognises Samsung is making a significant investment in the New Zealand music industry. “It’s a great way for Kiwis to discover new artists and new music,” says Adam.

Peter Baker, General Manager of local record label DRMNZ says it’s fantastic that Samsung is launching Milk Music here. “Samsung is passionate about music and will offer truly New Zealand specific content to the end user, including thousands of great NZ tracks, bands and artists available from DRMNZ,” says Peter.

Milk Music is available now for free download from Google Play.

Milk’s distinctive dial design provides a more intuitive and natural way to listen to music. With no need to think of a specific artist, song name or browsing through a list of choices, you can just starting listening to music instantly. From Pop to Jazz and everything in between, the dial displays up to nine genres featuring a wide variety of music listening choices, with a simple and quick turn of the dial.

More of the Music You Love
With a growing music catalogue of over 150 genre-based and curated stations, Milk connects people with the best music, whether it’s a standby song or a new discovery, with significantly fewer repeats. In addition, the “Spotlight” feature offers a continuously curated selection of songs and albums handpicked by music tastemakers and influencers. “My Stations” collects all the stations you love and the personal stations you create based on your favourite artists. What’s more it is easily accessible on the dial, providing limitless listening options.

Your Music Your Way
Samsung is delivering an incredibly personalised experience by offering users many ways to finetune Milk to suit their individual listening preferences. The dial is customisable to showcase only the genres that are most relevant to your personal tastes and preferences. Offering more personalisation options, the “FineTune Station” feature allows you to adjust genre-based stations based on popularity, novelty and song favorites to further optimise recommendations for the best personalised listening experience.

Basically because it is free, and competition is needed to keep the others honest, and cheaper. Doesn't seem to be on the samsung apps store, at least not on my s3, although it is in the playstore. It does give a reason to buy samsung over other devices, as they certainly need something to get me ever buying another samsung over an apple device.

Just tried it, and it is actually quite good. Not sure what the bitrate is. A bit like pandora, it is good it shows the skip number. I am guessing it is to combats apple radio, which is only on apple devices, althoughh I don't think it is available in NZ yet.

My pick is they can use it to counter any criticism regarding the deletion of the SD card slot on the S6 etc. Cue: "No problem, you just download our MILK app..."

Hmm, installed fine on my S4 running a GPe ROM, BUT... doesn't want to open. Possibly doesn't like my changed DPI?
