I have a Huawei 520y with Android 4.4.2 on it. I have a contract with Digital Island.

The issue I have is every time I leave Auckland I lose Network and can't reconnect until back in Auckland again.

Digital Island seem to have no idea what might be causing it. So I figure it must either be the phone or Android?

I have tried manually connecting to networks, but no success.

Has anyone encountered this before??

Google suggests Digital island is small telecommunications player with coverage of major cities - I'd never heard of it. Can you tell us where you're trying to use it that it doesn't work?

Have you tried a SIM from a bigger player, Spark/Telecom?

As far as I'm aware, DI use the Spark mobile network. As above, try a standard Spark SIM to narrow the issue down.

If I remember correctly Digitial Island is a MNVO of Spark - Could be that your phone may be set to only pick up 3G 2100?
Is there a setting somewhere in your network configuration for setting the 3G Bands to Automatic instead of a specific setting
Only other suggestion would be to test a Spark Sim as others have said above

We go to Raglan a lot and it just hasn't worked at all there.

Which is odd as my wife has a Huawei y320 on 2 degrees that works fine.

I thought it could be an issue with the Network set up but my phone has more options than hers,

2G bands

GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900

3G bands

HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 - Y520-U03, Y520-U33

HSDPA 900 / 2100 - Y520-U12, Y520-U22

Will go and talk with Noel Leeming but suspect that will be pointless!

Yup, wish I had thought to try it last time I had the issue! It's a work phone and we are moving down to Raglan soon with the ability to work from there. However, starting with a phone that doesn't work isn't going to be a great start!

Coverage is good. Try a Spark SIM to see if it works. If it works the problem is the network, if it doesn't work either the problem is likely the phone.

So if the Sim works would it be an issue caused by Digital Island?

If it doesn't work would that mean the phone is faulty?

I note the Huawei site says this under the network specs:
WCDMA: (Y520-U12, Y520-U22)
l WCDMA Band VIII[900 MHz]: 880-915 MHz (UL), 925-960 MHz (DL)
l WCDMA Band I [2100 MHz]: 1920–1980 MHz (UL), 2110–2170 MHz (DL)

Or (Y520-U03, Y520-U33):
l WCDMA Band V [850 MHz]: 824–849 MHz (UL), 869–894 MHz (DL)
l WCDMA Band VII[1900 MHz]: 1850-1910 MHz (UL), 1930-1990 MHz (DL)
WCDMA Band I [2100 MHz]: 1920–1980 MHz (UL), 2110–2170 MHz (DL)

You would have to have the second model (in bold) to work 100% on the spark network as spark uses 850 AND 2100 - 2100 would probably work in most of inner Auckland but you need 850 for reliable coverage everywhere.

Pretty sure Noel Leeming carry the 2degrees variant of the Y520, which I suspect is the U22 to voer the 900/2100 for 2degrees, so yup, that's probably it.

Well, it looks like its the U12, so I have the answer.

Thanks so much for the help.

I still think Noel Leeming is partly at fault here as I did ask, will this work on any network after its unlock and was told yes. I certainly had no idea there was anything to be concerned about.
