Interesting announcement yesterday but not totally unsurprising given some the of statements from the Cyanogen camp over recent months. A lot of questions come to mind with this, the biggies amongst them being:
- is Google losing control of Android?
- what bearing will this have on Tizen? (with the Z1 fairly recently being described as a bad Android clone)
- are Microsoft slowly (and quietly) backing away from Windows Phone or are they simply hedging their bets?

I'm looking forward to seeing what shakes out of this over the next year or so.

Google has played in Apple's backyard for a long time despite having it's preferred OS, now MS want s to play in Google's backyard, sounds logical to not tie your premium products into a single low market share OS

I find I use MS Office suite on Android far more than i do the Google equivalent

Not clear from the original announcement but in practice it's a separate distribution if I read it right.
