Couldn't find where to fit this - it sort of fits areas but goes beyond them. So I use Google Adwords, Analytics and Webmaster Tools. While not an expert I'm fairly comfortable with them.

As well I have LastPass on my PC to make password security somewhat manageable.

For some time I've had a smartphome - not because I wanted it - in fact I long for the old days. But we have reception difficulties in our area (only 2km from the CBD in a town of 100,000 - the hills cause the problems). And this phone got the beat rating we could find for reception. Even then it is marginal - even more so on my wife's identical phone.

Anyway I've recently been trying to use the play store on my phone to try out some apps. Some DL OK - and some require me to enter a password for Google. I've tried several times and can't get it to work. Worse it's changed the google passwords and even worse my banking app on the PC can no longer connect until I ring them and get the password sorted.

The silly thing is I know not to presevere when I failed twice - we get three goes before it is locked - but it is now locked after two attempts on the phone.

I have tried other programs and none work. I even tried installing lastpass on the phone - but that won't let me in either.

I hate trying to "type" on the phone = but I have been very careful and just can't figure out the problems.

The real frustration is google passwords - using them on the phone changes them so I have to change them on the PC - and then the phone doesn't work - etc - you get the picture. What's worse I can't reuse passwords in google.

I've given up on the phone apps until I get the google working consistently - but I know it needs to be sorted after that.

Any helpful hints greatly received.

What do you mean using the password on the phone changes them? I have never had that happen. Are you using 2 factor and re-generating the application password each time or something?

Pay $12 per year and get the last pass mobile app.
It resolved my issues (I know you have said you have, but it has had vast improvements of late)

Seems to be a few issues there. For one; just installing an app on your phone shouldn't require your password. Depending on your payment settings, when downloading an app you would normally only get asked for your google password if it's a paid app (as opposed to a free app). This password will be the password for the google account set in the Play Store. It won't be changing passwords randomly on you.

Make sure you're not confusing the password on your banking app with your google password. The banking app password should be the password you use when logging in to your bank's website (unless they have a separate password setup for the app).

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

OK - didn't know the mobile version of lastpass wasn't free like the desktop version but if that helps it's probably worth it.

As for the password changes - I don't understand them - that's why I'm asking here. I don't use 2-factor or change the password normally. But when I need to resolve the phone password, I can't get into google on the desktop. So I change that and then can't get in on the phone. etc.

I haven't tried this for a month or two - too busy with year-end stuff - but I assume it's still the same.

As for the apps on the phone - I generally don't have internet access. I only turn it on when I'm testing my web sites etc. So then I connect via the router at home. I tried to download an app (can't even remember what for). That's when I tried to get in and the trouble started.

I dl'ed a few today to try different things - but even then things went weird. For example tried my phone banking app. After two fails I went back to the laptop knowing I only had three attempts - and it had locked me out. I will fix this next week - but right now I'm at my wit's end. Thinking I might just forget the phone - but I've hate admitting defeat and I might have a stroke and faulty kidneys and not be a natural at technology - but I survived computers, PC's, web sites, Joomla and I hate to be beaten by such a little piece of technology.

Ive never heard of that problem. You dont have strange characters in your passwrod that look the same but are different do you? I know someone that had problems with _ and - on their phone, also capital letters because they have an iphone which inexplicably doesnt show you on the keys what you are entering.

If you are not set up for 2 factor then that is the password you enter along with your google account username wherever you need it.

Is it a gmail account or another email address that you use to log in with? I have only ever used gmail accounts as google accounts

I don't use GMail - I've been using their utilities for web sites (ads, etc). I have two entries in LastPass - accounts.google.com and simply google.com.

+1 for KeePass. I store the database file (.kdb) in Dropbox, so can access it from phone or desktop anytime.
