Sony has just announced the Z4 online:

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Sony-officially-announces-the-Sony-Xperia-Z4-5.2-inch-FHD-screen-and-a-metal-frame_id68422

Not too much of an upgrade from the Z3:

  • S801 on Z3 vs S810 on Z4
  • 2MP front facing camera on Z3 vs 5.1MP on Z4
  • Battery size shrinks down to 2930mAh on Z4 from 3100mAh on Z3
  • Slimmer & lighter on Z4
  • 32GB ROM on Z4 vs 16GB on Z3

Meh... Nothing to wow us. Should've put in 4GB Ram. Sacrificing 170mAh battery to reduce the thickness by .4mm?... Rather have that extra battery capacity over that slightly reduced thickness.

Maybe the cooking mode is actually being able to fry an egg on the Snapdragon 810

Such iteration...but if the battery life is on par with Z3 I might get as an upgrade from M7

I really like the design on Sony phones and would like to try one to pair with my PS4 as such. But when Sony release their phones I feel like they are 1 step behind the competition so I don't even bother. When I think "Sony" I instantly think Premium, but with the phones I know they are going to be behind. Just a general statement, not to do with the Z4 as such.

It's playing the same game as M9, evolution with refinement rather than revolution with WoW factor.

Their own twitter accounts still haven't announced it. What a great look.

"Update: we’ve asked the question at the end of the post, and it looks like it’s been answered. Apparently, the Xperia Z4 is only for Japan, but the rest of the world will get a different flagship by the end of May, according to this report."

If that is correct this will make for some confusion as the previous flagships are Z#. Are they going to have a new name or just a different version for the rest of world?

Maybe this was what previous rumour was referring to that the Z4 comes with FHD and QHD versions, maybe the rest of the world is getting the QHD version? :-p

I think the international version will be similar and will probably still be called a Z4 in some way. I wouldn't get any hopes up.

Looks like this Z4 may have wireless charging... no magnetic charging dock that I can see.

The smaller battery shouldnt matter to much when the 810 isn't being used for gaming etc it's far better on battery life.
