I've been keeping an eye out for mid-range phones that have decent processors, screens and battery life and I think the ZTE Nubia Z9 Mini fits that bill. Despite being called a mini it does have a 5" screen though.

Someone did a review at gizmochina and it's quite reasonably priced for ~$300 USD on Ebay and Aliexpress

I am quite tempted.

That's a really nice looking phone, only worry is the chinese language ROM and the note about some dubious translations. Good to see the battery life, and full 2g/3g/4g on both SIMs

My first smartphone was a ZTE Blade, very impressive VFM back in 2011

Nubia Z9 Mini is a nice looking phone. I was considering buying it aswell. But as above, the dubious translations of the ROM and sometimes no translations at all is a bit of a turn off. Also, the Snapdragon 615 with it's overheating issues. The Nubia Z7 Mini is a better spec phone as it's got SD 801, but doesn't look as attractive as the Z9 Mini. But you could just get a replacement glass back cover for that I guess.

If you don't mind the bigger size, I would suggest checking out the upcoming Elephone P7000, the Jiayu S3 or wait to see how the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 turns out. The Elephone and Jiayu both use the Mediatek MT6752 which is suppose to be a rival of the Snapdragon 615 and the MediaTek is superior to the SD615. And the Redmi Note 2 is rumored to be packing the higher end MT6795.

The Jiayu S3 is ~USD$200 and the Elephone P7000 is ~USD$230, so they are cheaper and better spec'd compared to the Nubia Z9 Mini.

I haven't seen anything about Snapdragon 615 overheating. The Jiayu S3 looks ok but still running Kit Kat 4.4.4

Do you have any comparisons between Snapdragon 615 and MT6752?

I read it in various tech sites regarding heating issues with the SD615, along with the SD810. There was a report saying they found both were having issues with overheating.

The Jiayu S3 is supposedly getting a Lollipop update in the near future... The Jiayu S3's got really good feedback and it got a decent camera at a very good price.

Here's a Vietnamese comparison with the HTC Desire 820 and Desire 820S. Both have the same hardware except 820 is packing the SD615 SoC and the 820S has got the MT6752.

The MT6752 is faster performance wise, and it's also cheaper.
