Assuming there is no security pin set, the USB charging cable is live and the "from any screen" OK Google setting is enabled, the Moto G will respond to "OK Google" even when the screen is asleep. So I can set timers etc. without laying a finger on it. I just purchased an HP 8 G2 tablet, and I can't get it to behave the same way. It refuses to switch on the screen. It clearly hears the "OK Google", but only brings up the "listening..." screen next time the screen is manually woken up via the lock button.

Is there a way to make it work properly on the tablet?

Only certain devices support it

Like Yabanize just said your tablet wouldn't support it in sleep mode. There are very few devices that do.

Thanks. I guess I'll gave to run the damned thing's screen 24/7 with a screensaver or something.

Yeap. Its one of the beauties with googles motorola input :) Nice clean OS and some neat features. Recently got a moto X and was impressed by these myself.

Wow, this thing is useless. Even with the screen left on it still only responds to "OK Google" intermittently. It's not a voice or proximity issue, sometimes it's just not listening. If you trigger it manually once, it will work automatically several times after that. It's like it shuts down the process that does the listening, and pressing the mic button starts it up again.
