Hi, I am unable to send email over 3G on my tablet using 2 degrees.I can receive fine but the device says "Connection problem" when attempting to send over cellular data.
Wifi works fine.
I can usually nut these things out, but alas, no luck here.

How are you sending email? SMTP? If so are you using the correct SMTP settings?

Yes smtp. Port 25, require sign in etc. I have tried some other combos but I get a msg saying wrong smtp server

Well you'll need to ensure you're using the correct SMTP settings for your mail provider. As you haven't said who that is there isn't a lot more help anybody can offer without knowing this.

Hmm there's your problem, don't think you should be using port 25, should probably be port 465 or 587, depending on your ISp. The reason port 25 works ok on wifi is because the isp recognises you, because you're in their network. When on 2degrees your outside of their network so you need to authenticate on a secure port

Edit: if you give us your ISp and we can probably tell you what to set if changing the ports as above doesn't help

Not many providers accept incoming connections on port 25 from outside their networks, even with authentication. You will most likely have to check if they offer encrypted connection over another port.

Go back to the replies above. You can't access port 25 from outside the Vodafone network, and not sure Paradiser servers support encrypted access. Your (and everyone's) best bet is always use a non-ISP email (Microsoft Outlook, Google Gmail, etc...)

According to Vodafone's website for Paradise, port 25 is all they offer with SSL off... even Vodafone and ihug's own smtp is port 25. I find that quite hard to believe (nice to see the old Paradise site still up though, bit of nostalgia right there). You might be best to look for a third party SMTP provider when you are out and about.

Correct. If you really want to keep your paradiset.net.nz address you can always use a third party SMTP service - smtp.com and dyn.com come to mind. They aren't free though.

Except paradise have an SPF record which says people shouldn't be using an external place to send from:

paradise.net.nz text = "v=spf1 ip4:203.97.32.0/21 ~all"

Yes I know its ~all which means "softfail.. allow mail whether or not it matches the parameters in the record". Having ~ is basically the same as having nothing.

But some people will treat ~all as -all fail and reject your email.

ISP's who have SPF records _should_ give external people a means to email thru their network when they are not physically on that ISP.
