Hi All,

I have an interesting issue with my phone (S4 I9505) and after spending a few hours/evenings trying to resolve the issue I'm kinda on a dead end.. so I decided to get some info from here.

Had this S4 for a while (2nd hand, and was bricked, so could it cheap). Here in auckland and works fine, 4G and everytying. Went for a long weekend out of town with no 2degrees coverage and noticed that it would not roam on VF. My old phone (same sim) worked fine.  Note that I'm running a custom GPE rom. I've tried several settings but could not get it to work but gave up and enjoyed the view instead :)

Once home I tried a VF SIM in the phone and that did not work either.

So I did some research and all is a bit vague but there is a setting "Settings->Mobile Networks->CDMA Subscription" which is on "NV". On my ROM it's stuck on that.. i.e. I can't change it to the other option "RUIM/SIM" and it appears it shoudl be on that?.  I tried flashing to cyanogenmod CM10.2 which is supposed to have that option working but did not work for me.

I can see Vodafone in the network list, but can't connect to it.

Is there anyone out there that has a S4 GPE and could let me know what version they are running, and what the Baseband/modem version is?  I'm running S4 JFLTE-GPE UltimaROM, Baseband version I9505XXUGNI1, Android 5.0.1.   The phone was originally a touchwiz version.

I'm about to flash another Baseband version which seems to fix similar issues of other's in other parts of the world but wanted to ask first.

Oh I also checked the APN settings, and all good.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers
J

Make sure the APN is ' vodafone ' and not ' www.vodafone.net.nz '

What plan are you on?

Sounds like maybe a stolen phone that is blacklisted on VF but not 2degrees (before there was a unified list).

That's a possibility - it'd be well worth putting it through the IMEI checker.

If the IMEI was blacklisted it would not log onto any 2G 3G or 4G

As others have said check your IMEI here to see if it is blacklisted - http://www.tcf.org.nz/content/cfa46b54-509c-44aa-91da-3bfe14d20f8f.html
I know with some issues when flashing other ROM's where it resets your IMEI to all zeros which could cause some issues as well

It's entirely possible that your custom ROM has broken the cross-network roaming capabilities (I'm assuming you have turned roaming on).

As others have suggested, check to see if the device has been blacklisted - if it has been, it's highly likely it will stop working on 2degrees as well when they next update their cross-network blacklists.

Failing that, try flashing back to stock to see if the problem persists.

Hi All,

Thanks for all the replies. I've checked and it is indeed blacklisted.

I should have mentioned that it often does not work with 2degrees either but that only started about a week ago. Maybe 2degrees only synced up with the list recently, not sure.  After calling them they told me VF has put it on the list and have to go through the previous owner who has to contact VF.  He seems very happy to help and used it up till it was sold so hopefully it's some mistake somewhere.

Cheers
Johan

Perhaps the previous owner had it second hand as well?

It's quite hard for a random number to be added to the blacklist.
