My S4 has just notified that Lollipop/5.0 is available.

Anyone else had this notification?

My father in-law is complaining (like it's my fault) that his S4 has been upgrade and he no longer knows how to use it.

My wife didn't like when her Moto G was upgraded to Android 5, she finds it slower, worse on battery, and more difficult to use.

How is Android 5 on the S4 with Touchwiz? I'm on a custom ROM so I didn't get notified. I'd be tempted by one of the custom ROMs that backports some of the S5/S6 features.

Downloading now, so I'll advise.  4.4.2 was a train wreck for me, so hard to see 5.0 not being an improvement.

Famous last words ...

Are you sure?
This link shows it was only released for Spark yesterday.

5.0 mostly functions in the same way as previous versions.  It has different look, with a lot more use of colour and depth which I'm not used to yet.

It does seem to work harder when streaming video - got warm and used battery fast.

My only bugbear so far is that the pedometer fro S Health and temperature from weather app appear on the lock screen.

Haven't figured out how to remove them yet.

Edit: It turns out if you have the lock screen set to display a personal message you can't remove additional information.  If you set it to clock you can remove the additional icons.

Yeah it's come down for me too. On Vodafone I9505

I'll have a play today. Quite painless. I was expecting to have to restore everything. Pretty sure Lollipop can set a smart lock, like bluetooth in the car etc?

Smart lock is awesome, I have work, home, parents etc as trusted places, car bluetooth as trusted device and onbody detection switched on. The amount of times I need to enter a password is so minimal now, the risk versus convenience is quite favourable in my opinion

Anyone else having critical problems with the Spark update?

My wife's phone updated last night and was fine briefly, then crashed and rebooted. She was then able to get past the lockscreen (if she moved very quickly) before it crashed again. It then started bootlooping and now won't even do that. I was able to get into recovery once and clear the cache, but now even that option doesn't work. I can get into download mode but it crashes again within seconds so even that option is now out. Have tried several fully charged batteries so have decided the S4 is about shagged at this point. Worse, she lost all the photos of her and our little girl after their trip to Disney on Ice this weekend, as well as all the rest of the others she hadn't backed up...

Decidedly unimpressed with the Spark update so far. I think I'll stick with custom firmware on my phone, it's more reliable and I get full nightly backups...

My impression are that the phone now uses drains the battery slower using 4G, but drains the battery faster using WiFi.

I'm disappointed the very handy and highly functional Alarm clock widget is gone.

Wife's I9505 (Spark) upgraded to 5.0.1, but now Bluetooth playback stutters when the screen goes to sleep. Real pain, as we use this as our 'radio' to the soundbar. This is a known issue, that is apparently fixed in 5.1. Hopefully won't be long until this is released
