Been having some issues with blowing out our small 80gb cap recently since our kids have started taking to watching some YouTube. We used to use 50-60 gigs a month, but recently we have been going over. They are using a Samsung TabPro and the official youtube app, the problem with the official app is it always ramps up the quality and uses heaps of data. Getting the kids to change the quality each time is a bit of an up hill battle, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions, I was hoping a good 3rd party youtube app existed which allowed setting a default quality, I have had a Google but have not found any good ideas/apps. Another option of course is to get a bigger cap/unlimited, but there is quite a price jump and doesn't seem worth while just for this.

80GB is never enough if you're steaming.
Most ISPs charge about $10 more for unlimited.

Ah the quality will definitely wind up nicely then on VDSL..
If I wasn't wanting to spend any more I'd perhaps consider switching to an unlimited ADSL plan instead..
Depending on your router perhaps it could be possible to limit the speed of the tablets internet connection, but it would limit everything for it

To be honest 80gb is not enough. My suggestion is to change to a provider like BigPipe as in reality the cost difference is nothing considering that for most people the internet is the main source of entertainment.

User settings > never high, does that work?

https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/91449?hl=en

Edit: the issue there is you need a signed in account, which may not be ideal

Thanks for this but it doesn't seem to affect the youtube app even though it is signed in.

Keep in mind too with Spark or 2degrees broadband pricing you can get a $10 credit each month if you have a mobile plan with them

I pay $49/month for unlimited UFB with Trustpower. When I had ADSL the price was the same. That also includes the phone. Next year the price will rise to no more than $79/month.

But you are bundling this with power - and depending on the OPs location TrustPower may or may not be a provider, and may be priced significantly higher than other power providers. I've never seen their pricing to be particularly sharp.

1. If your Tablets/Phones are rooted?, Install Xposed Framework + Yourtube.
2. 3rd party app is Viral. "Viral popup" is the free version & "Viral Pro" is the premium version. For some reason 480p is a listed option but doesn't work. It jumps from 360p to 720p.

There aren't too many decent 3rd party android YT apps.

EDIT: Typo

People who keep saying "Change plan": There is little more annoying on online forums than muppets such as yourselves that, not knowing an answer to a question, suggest other things or question the oringal posters motives/idea.

He/she asked "How do I limit YouTube Bandwidth?" If you don't know, don't post.

Yes, this post is just as useless as all yours. I apologise to the OP for this fact.

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

OOOHHHH HYPERFIBRE!
