I'm new to the Android world, so coming from an iOS background.
I purchased an S6 Edge, and I'm slowly learning about Android.   Once thing I have read is the latest software is 5.1.1 and that was released in June.
My mobile is running 5.0.2 and when I do a software check OTA, it tells me nothing new is available.

I tried asking Spark online chat, and they got Mobile Faults to call me, who said it wasn't their issue and then put me through to Samsung, who said it's not their issue and it's Sparks. I asked Spark again and they said it's Samsung's issue, and then finished with "not released in NZ".

Coming from iOS, when Apple releases and update, there is no drama in getting it.  So what's the story with Android?

Apparently the 5.1.1 update had a serious bug in it when installed on the S6 /S6 edge so they have pulled the update for now until it's fixed

Android 5.1.1 for the S6 Edge was released at the start of Aug for Spark's S6 Edge's.

If you feel adventurous you can download the firmware and manually flash it via Odin here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/53154/G925IDVU2COGA_G925ITNZ2COGB_TNZ/

Otherwise install Samsung's Kies software onto your PC and and see if it will update your device.

Hadn't heard that, I know of a few people who got the OTA on their devices and haven't had any issues.

@DarrenJ Where did you obtain the S6 edge from?

My S6 edge since the 5.1.1 is seriously stuffed and turned into a POS not impressed at all and just dropped it off today to be sent to Samsung

Locks up all the time, Taking a photo will send the handset into re-boot mode like 5 times and then it will just lock up

Be pleased you are on 5.0.2

Now back using a Samsung S4 i9505

Might be better to download and install "Samsung Smart Switch for PC" on your computer. Then when you connect your S6E it will check to see if there is an update available and install it for you if you wish. It has the benefit of allowing you to backup your phone first (kind of like iTunes, but maybe not as good). It has taken the place of Kies I believe.
You need to be pretty keen to flash something via Odin if you are new to Android.

How did you find that out? Spark are telling me it's defiantly up to Samsung to release OTA updates.
Will look into Kies..

Bought it in a Spark store.    Starting to wonder if I should have stayed with Apple :(

Yes it's Samsung Korea that pushes out OTA updates after carriers have tested the software from Samsung and approved it

What is Odin?

Edit: never mind - just found out. Would prefer to stick to 'normal' supported methods, so installing Kies at moment.

If they have pulled the OTA it will be for a good reason. Do you really want to be a beta tester if the software has bugs?

Odin is a brute force PC program that is quite powerful but also has the potential to brick your phone if you get it wrong.

Edit. Install Smart Switch not Kies.

It all seems so complicated with Android.
haha.
Ok got Smart Switch installed.
It tells me
Current Version : PDA:OD1 / CSC:OD1 / PHONE:OD1 (TNZ)
Latest Version: PDA:OE3 / CSC:OD3 / PHONE:OE3(TNZ)

which makes no sense really, especially as OTA says no update available.

Admittedly I have an S6 not the edge but I updated mine from 5.0.2 to 5.1.1 using SSforPC a few weeks ago. The process was painless, but necessary in my case as you can't OTA a rooted device. I liked the fact that you could do a backup and revert if the update didn't go well.
Lots of good guides on using it online. It is official Samsung software.
