After jumping from my old iph 4 to my Sony Xperia Z 3 years ago I can safely say I wont be going back soon or ever, the OS is such a mess and not really simple to use after all, more a pain. Im sorry Apple but Google is again ahead of you and Android is much simpler and easy to use than iOS.

And Windows Phone (IMO) is ahead of both Apple and Android phones, but at the moment, there isn't the uptake because people want apps. Which is kind of funny, as I have plenty of apps on my Windows Phone.

I dont think the major banks have windows phone apps, other than ASB last time I checked. YNAB (you need a budget) isn't available, comixology just pulled their windows app, android wear devices work on iOS and android but not windows phone.

I would love to switch to windows phone 10, but it does lack apps. I'm hoping this changes, but until then I'll stick with android. Continuum looks amazing, and universal binary is brilliant, I really do hope they open the xbox one more so it can run these types of apps, then allow you to connect a keyboard/mouse and use the xbox as a proper computer. Would make it an attractive option IMO.

Coming from android to iOS last month i have to say I am a lot happier with iOS at this stage than I was with my android devices.

Slow software updates from android OEM's were driving me nuts. Sure it's a pain for songs with itunes but I use spotify, there is also wifi sync as from itunes now as well.
I also like how there is software that backs up my device (app data etc) without rooting and how I can arrange my screens from a desktop client.

However saying all that I do miss the 2 hours free for google play apps where you can get a refund.

I also use windows phone for my work phone and love that OS as well.

It's a matter of perspective. Personally I hate helping out work colleagues with all their Android issues, every one is different, and not initiative at all. Like or hate at least you can be sure an Apple device is nothing else but consistent. Some of these complaints are just ridiculous TBH.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Yup. Number 5 (screen brightness) made me go "WTF?". I've disabled the default "Auto-Brightness" because I often find that my iPhone 6 will make itself far too dark when in a dark room. I certainly wouldn't complain that the lowest setting is too bright!

Im quite interested in Windows OS but again lack of apps mainly the banking ones as mentioned. Contiumm looks awesome and I would be too happy to jump to Windows just for that alone!

Some of them listed gripes on iOS are something I take for granted on Android, I mean the wifi one has to be worst and dont get me started on that fixed stupid icon grid. Thats why I like Android for now, its like an extension for windows desktop.

I love the fluidity of windows phone, it always seems so integrated with app behaviour similar to OS behaviour. iOS to me feels like its just a bunch of separate apps, its almost clinical in nature. I favour pure google and where possible use google's own apps, Google is forever evolving and it is constantly becoming a more cohesive experience, cut, paste, share pics/files across multiple apps, android/chrome syncing. to be honest the integration possible between a windows desktop (with Chrome browser) and android is seamless all things considered and worlds ahead of iOS and probably more useful than WP to windows :P

You can use accessibility in iOS for a "dark mode". Use it myself. Its as easy as three presses on the home button + choosing the dim mode and its dimmed.

Shortcuts to things in settings etc. is available through third party apps, like Launcher that I am pretty happy with. Its available from the notification centre (pull down from the top). There I have easy access to switching iTunes accounts (have an account for Norway, US and NZ), switching Wi-fi networks, changing the autolock etc.

But iOS not allowing users to control the emission of blue light at night is a genuine annoyance - I've been able to stick apps on both my laptop and Android phone to manage this, but of course no options for a non-jail-broken iOS device...

Similarly, I get the article's point about not being able to easily select wifi connections w/o having to go into the iOS settings (why can't holding buttons like wifi or bluetooth on the bottom pull-up menu not lead directly to the relevant settings, a la Android?), but to be honest I find the failure to put a cellular on/off control on the bottom pull-up menu more frustrating.

It may not be a 'design fault' but it's a deliberate decision - a design limitation if you will - by Apple to limit the way I can access certain features. With Android I could elect to access those same settings the 'slow' way or use the shortcut by holding the button down - but it's a choice I can make.

And, yes, I do find it annoying that I can turn on/off wifi and bluetooth etc relatively easily, but for some weird reason Apple have decided that control over cellular data is not to be given the same easy access. At least with Android if such a limitation was present by default chances are I could get an app to provide that feature.

I agree it's 'personal preference', and my preference is not to be so limited how I use a device, and to be given the option to amend the default behaviour if I so choose. I don't subscribe to the fan boy approach that Apple knows best...

And, to be honest, I imagine ours will continue to be a mixed OS house - having an iPad and Android devices (phones and tablet) gives us the opportunity to experience both; I'd just not ever choose an iOS device as my primary device (ie an iPhone).

@scwup You may need to educate yourself with Android. Since I have experience with both OS's , finding faults in both OS's are similar. If you know what you are looking for, it will be there. Its just a different way to access that info. I find iOS as not as user friendly as they make it out to be. As it has been pointed out earlier iOS is based on apps and not actual pure system switching or tools to make your experience easier.

The best example was my work asked me to install a smart payroll app onto our smartphones. Now 60% of the office use iphones, the other % use Android. Now we all accessed the app the same way to their respective app stores. Now the strange thing was setting up the user in the app was the shock I got the most. While the iphone user was setting up their app, they needed to provide their details, email, username AND Apple user ID number. Android user just had to use email address and thats it! My iphone coworkers struggled to try and get their Apple IDs. Now if that is me that is not user friendly and another layer to confuse people. Meanwhile the android user was up and running 10 mins earlier........

Conversely most of the people I have running to me for help at work are Android users (I know enough to get by with most things). Again, personal preference, circumstances may vary.

Oh @Jonathan18...I agree that leaving cellular data off the 'pull up' menu was odd, but then again I can't recall the last time I wanted to turn that off. I rarely use the pull-up menu as it is just as easy to make 2 selections as it is to swipe and select. Once you know where to go it makes no fundamental difference Android or Apple. Android has way more customization which some will prefer, that flexibility however can create it's own problems, as the issues I get presented with are normally people playing with stuff they know nothing about just because they wondered what it did...sigh.

I'm pretty interested in Windows Phone again with Continuum and a confluence of features I need/want coming together in the 950XL. On the basis of that interest I checked their store for a variety of apps that do things I need and unfortunately found an awful lot of holes, with many of my core Android apps (Bubble UPnP for example) having no apparent viable alternative in Windows Phone. I will have another look soon, but the apps situation is still a barrier there for me.

Interesting how these type of threads go a bit tribal but good entertainment. Been said its personal preference and no one can convince me I should go to IOS likewise wouldn't see any die hard Apple users going to Android nor would I try.

Also interesting how the majority of posts talk about Windows when topic is IOS or Android, just saying
