What phone have you got? Some Samsung have a driving mode, with widget to enable.

I use the Sony Smart connect app (for other reasons) which has smart actions. You can set it so when it connects with say your car Bluetooth, an action is to turn on reading texts aloud, when you disconnect it switches this off.

I use Tasker (paid app) to do what you describe, and a whole lot more. There is a series of YouTube videos called (unsurprisingly) "Tasker Tutorials" by HollywoodFrodo. One is about what you want to achieve. Add 'AutoVoice' (also a paid app) for Google Now integration, but I have mine to automatically switch to Car Mode when connected to the car Bluetooth. My Car Mode is generated by Tasker. It, amongst other things, sets the phone to read my received texts aloud. When I leave the car, the phone goes back into private mode and doesn't read texts out loud (good for public places).
