ive got an old galaxy Splus that i no longer use but i want the kids to be able to play games on it.

it has NO SIM card in it but is connected to our home wifi.

when i try to log into a google account it says "user and password dont match" and i cant log in..

do you HAVE to have a sim to access your google account?

any reason it wont log on from this phone?

Nope. Both correct. Absolutely 100% sure of that. The wierd thing is my google avcount shows no sign of attempted logins.

Try a different keyboard. Most phones have at least two preinstalled. I assisted a friend in a similar scenario. Different keyboard resolved it.

I have seem similar behaviour on a new device - the Meizu m3 Note wouldn't let me add a Google account during setup. It only allowed me access to the account when I inserted a SIM card.

Yeah I forget what the actual problem was but essentially the keyboard was not faithful to the input with some characters/capitalisation. It was an old phone.

Why not just leave a dead sim in it?

Odd behaviour though, I've just set up a Galaxy TAB 4 (which has a SIM slot) without a SIM card and it logged into my Google account over wi-fi without any issues.
