So I am suffering the "new voice mail" icon that keeps appearing when there isn't a new voice mail when the phone reboots. I used to be able to get rid of it by going into the phone settings and clear the call data, the new version just downloaded (Samsung Galaxy S5), and now the app data cant be cleared in the same way, any tips???

New voicemail icon? I've never seen a special icon for voicemail.. perhaps it's a carrier addon? Where does this icon appear (notification bar or the homescreen)? Could you upload a screenshot please?

Hi, above is a video of the issue, its been around for years! No one has seemed to crack the fix for it, but use the temp fix of clearing the call data through the application manager and when you ever reboot you have to clear it again.

I've been using Android for 2 or 3 years, I've never seen that icon. What carrier?

I've been Spark, 2 degrees, and now Skinny, I've never seen that notification and I get voicemails often enough. I've mostly used custom ROMS though. S4.

That is just a standard Android VM icon (and on other phones also). You've been able to have that as your default voicemail icon on Vodafone for probably the last 6 or 7 years rather than getting a SMS message and I've had it for that long as it's so much better than a SMS.That's now stopped as Vodafone have a new voicemail platform and haven't re-enabled it yet.

No idea how to get rid of it because I've never seen it occur except for legit voicemail messages. You need somebody with the capability to send a SMS to clear it for you, I used to be able to do this but my SMS gateway isn't currently operational.

Just contact Spark or go into a store, it is quite simple for them to remove the VM icon. Basically what is happening is your phone thinks there is a VM (or the network thinks there is - can't remember), they can reset it from their end.

If your phone is rooted you could just delete the graphic from the phone. I did that with an annoying noise the phone made when I put it onto a wireless charger.

Odd, just like timmay, I've never seen that icon/notification before. I've been using Android since Cupcake on the HTC Magic, followed by the Desire, Desire Z, S2, Nexus 4, G2, G3 and the Nextbit Robin. I've been with Vodafone, Spark, 2degrees, Skinny and back to Spark. I've always received a text message to alert me of a voicemail notification.

How would you go about opting to get the notification as opposed to a text message?
