Hey dudes

I wish to send and receive phone text messages from an Android app. I've moved to a rural location that doesn't have a cell coverage and need to stay in touch. Even better if the app supports phone calls to and from my number too.

I've tried to use Signal with no success.

Cheers

It's really not clear what you are asking.

Are you saying you want an app that routes calls/text to you via wifi but using your own mobile number?

If so I don't know of any service that can do that with a NZ mobile number.

Only thing I can suggest is something like skype with a dial in number and you have skype installed on your device

I think he's asking about an iMessage type app for android. He's taking about SMS/txt not calls...

The best cross platform app IMHO is whatsapp, but all these messenger apps require the other person to have the app too, so the main reason for WhatsApp getting my vote is the widespread uptake it already has... Viber is quite well known too.

Whatsapp will search through your contact list and tell you all your contacts that already have it, and lets you 'invite' others who haven't yet got it too... AFAIK it's also free (though I've had it for about 5 years now so maybe was just free to begin with?)

Anyway, easy enough to just download it and see how many of your contacts already have it?

Hi Tripp

Yes I wish to manage my phone's texts and calls from an app or computer without having to touch my phone.

Skype, WhatsApp and Viber donor fit the bill.

Sounds like a Vodafone Suresignal is your only option then... which requires both your phone and broadband to be on VF too!
