Sounds like it could open a pandoras box of issues. After all your telling android that your phone is a pixel when it is not.
It's a bit like when I find sites when looking for drivers for fedora that recommend that you change the text file telling the program what version number your running to the last fedora build but in no way tell you that this will break other things that are using it for verification of state.
It's a dumb way of doing it and could have many unforeseen circumstances.
