I have an Android 6 phone, the Huawei P9. I'm used to rooted phones, but I don't want to root this as I want the Android 7 update when it's out in a few months.

I'm finding unrooted Android a bit limiting. I want to do things Android thinks are completely unreasonable, like have Bittorrent Sync write files to the external SD card (eSD), or delete files using Root Browser (or any other file browser). Some apps, like Dropbox Sync, seem to be Android 6 aware and prompt you to grant permissions to access the eSD. Others, like BT Sync aren't, so writing to the eSD seems difficult or impossible. I'm not sure I want to use eSD as internal storage, I'd rather keep things fast and not cause weird problems.

Has anyone figured out a way to let random apps write to the eSD on Android 6?

I think I've used ES File Explorer to change permissions on the external SD card......but I can't remember the full context. (SGS7)

I've had similar issues, but got around them and thought this was how I did it..... (argh....terrible memory once the issue is resolved...and I know I'll have to work out how to fix it again next time).

You may have to create the folder first, change the permissions...then point the app at that folder. You can also alter permissions for an appin the Applications settings.....

I couldn't change permissions. I can't even write a single file to the card.

Thanks, but not sure I want to do that. I have plenty of storage on the phone, I just want to be able to sync things to the external SD to keep it freed up and occasionally move things around.

The solution might be to just use internal storage.

best to check with xda community

sd card thing came in with 4.4 so its not new issue.. annoys the hell out of everyone

since the app writers prevent moving data for apps to sd card.. they statred to increase

OS partition size and less internal sd card as they used to call it.

Samsung does away with it completely now.. and its all internal partition 8/16/32gb

which is needed if you play those big games like caesars slots

did you read this

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2724430

also googleplay have apps think most need root.

I know samsing tablet pops up a permission box to deny or allow access to SD card

might be there extra gui? not part of reg android?

since  5 they added more security in which has been a pain for some things

working and being stable one is Frep if use that to automate clicking.

random stops playing even if click the special permissions in system settings

That thread doesn't appear useful. It's a pain that Google has shut down functionality so much that people wanting to do basics have to consider rooting their phone. Da** annoying. Security good, but that goes too far.

I've started a thread on XDA and the Stack Exchange Android site.

OK I didnt read it fully..  but normally someone posts at end of something with a solution that works

or better one to check out. search xda can be tricky to find stuff with it.

seems you need to root then run sd fix app to solve it then.

then unroot it.. kingroot generally for me via PC.. then buy and install superusme to

rid that version and install proper malware free SU.. its easier to unroot then root.

dont it have to access build.prop and edit a line there to enable on every reboot?

unrooting

http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-unroot-android-devices-manually/

you think google os would now come with a option to root device and turn it back off or a proper

acl like windows employs

give back power to uses to add firewalls.. but the whole issue is people blocking ads on free apps

but free app devs are better to rid ads and give adv settings via paying.. the prob are apps wanting

more then $5 .. nav ones worse.. and limit time can get map ungrades.. unlimited cash flow

making millions is never enough now days they all want billions

I saw a few people on XDA who bricked their phone trying to root it, and it's a bit more involved than the S4. Given it's a loan phone I'd rather not brick it. Thanks for the ideas though.

I've posted on stack exchange and XDA, if anything interesting turns up I'll post here. Most likely I'll just stop using external SD.

Each app is able to write to its own respective SD>android>data>#name# folder. The native file browser can delete files. I still use es file explorer for other actions, I use an old version, the latest one is full of malware.
