Hi Guys,

Needing to replace the Girlfriends really old Samsung with 8GB internal as she is always running out of space now. Its been a great phone and she like Samsung now but is not 100% set on it. We would like to get something that runs at least Android 6.

Her main points are minimum 16gb Internal RAM, and a good camera.

We would be open to a stock Android phone if  that was an option, but she likes the Samsung Health App.....

So whats the current mid range options out there for ~300-400 $

Thanks!

Brian

Anyone have an opinion for or against the Vodafone Smart Plat 7?

Looks good on paper and 32GB which is (maybe) an advantage over the P9 Lite?

Huawei P9 (not sure about lite) is a lot faster than the S4, but it has issues with notifications and just general weirdness - the EMUI skin is too aggressive killing apps and hiding things, and changes stock Android heaps. The Android 7 update should help, the P9 lite might have that already.

If your gf likes Samsung I might stick with it. Can't recommend a particular phone.

Sister just bought a Samsung J5 prime from Noel leeming. I think it was $250 on special. Seems pretty good for the price.

Looks like it's back to $299 this week.

Wife uses a J5. Was over $300 when we bought it and it is a good phone for the money. Not that she puts any stress on it, though!!

Smart platinum 7 is a steal at $399 for those specs. 1440p display, fast charging, metal/glass design, stereo speakers, decent camera. Easy choice. No band 28 4G though, so will depend on where you're located.

If she values battery life and you guys need band 28 coverage, then the Redmi Note 3 Special Edition is the way to go.

P9 Lite is a good little piece of kit, wouldn't go for the Samsung J series when all of the above are much better bang for buck.

I think whatever you get, choose on style and build quality, and get an elegant leather phone case for her at the same time. So many phones come and go and it's hard to find many cases.

Thanks Guys,

She went with the Samsung J5 Prime and Wallet style case, she is very happy with it so far.

Not the phone I would choose, and I tried hard to push her to the Smart Plat 7, but for her it was just far to big. Shame they didn't have a higher spec phone like that with a smaller screen size.

Its a telecom phone and we are on Vodafone, but its unlocked and seems to be working fine.

NikT whats the deal with this Band 28 coverage stuff, for a non Mobile guru? LOL

4g whopwhops network. May get more urban coverage as time goes on but who knows how much in the next year or 2. I have it on my note 4 and am still on 3g most of the time around the north shore on vodafone so its not helping that much yet.
