Hi

Does anyone know where you can buy a USB C Wall Charger for the Nexus 5x with a NZ Electrical Plug? Have the one that came with my Nexus and really love the fast charging, but having 2 (1 for Work & 1 for Home) would be even greater :D. Have had a look on Amazon however have found that there are little to none, decent ones on there that have 'universal' pack with a NZ Plug.

Is there a reason why you just want a wall charger? You can buy something great such as an Anker or Ravpower that use a figure 8 cable so it's easy to buy one in NZ.

Don't you just need a usb c cable and a usb charger?

PB Tech have usb c cables and rapid phone chargers for about $40.

@rogercruse by Rapid Chargers do you mean ones that have Quick Charge 2.0/3.0 built in? Because if that is so, I thought the Nexus 5x didn't have Quick Charge capabilities, only USB C.

Ideally I am looking for a USB Wall Charger (that plugs into the Wall directly, no cable), however a figure 8 charger can probably do the job. I would rather buy one that has a USB C Port built into it to take advantage of having USB C compared with USB A, and the fast charging associated with USB C. Currently my LG USB C Charger that came with the Nexus (Output of 5v/3a I think) does the job, however if i need a quick charge i'm limited with the 1 charger, and I'm not the type to carry my chargers around with me all the time (so in theory I want 1 at work, and 1 at home). I do have a USB A Power bank, however tend to use that for my tablet. I also do have a spare USB C Cable, a mate of mine that had a Nexus 6p gave me his but he didn't have the charger.

So, does the Nexus 5x support Quick Charge 2.0/3.0? And if so, are there 'special' USB A to C Cables for Quick Charge or can a regular one work?

And also on the topic (may as well ask as well) does anyone know of anywhere that sells USB Power Banks with USB C (for Faster native Charging), as my current one doesn't even have enough juice when fully charged to charge my Nexus at the moment.

...

Looking online, the only place that I can find in NZ that sells a USB C wall Charger is either Apple or Jaycar. But Apple's is a 29w which costs $85 (expensive for me for a charger with only 1 port), and Jaycars is a Jaycar Brand which I'm not too comfortable with - rather have a respectful, well known brand. As to why I'm asking if anyone knows of anywhere else with a NZ Plug (Don't really want to have to use International Plug Convertors).

It's a bit expensive but what about the Apple charger?

The only option aside from Apple was Google, but that ship sailed as soon as the Pixel was not released in New Zealand and the Google Store removed the accessories.

The only way I know to achieve "charging rapidly" on a Nexus 5X is to use a 3Amp wall charger in combination with a USB-C to USB-C cable (using USB-A to USB-C results in just "Charging")

After not finding any suitable solutions myself, I went with a Anker PowerPort with 4x USB-A connections and 1x USB-C connection (and currently wanting for some USB-C to USB-C cables to arrive to complete my work setup. (for home, still looking for a decent brand USB-C to USB-C cable that is 2m or longer).

I have a decent USB A type charger and a decent USB A to C cable. The Huawei P9 charges at around 1800mah until it hits 90% when it slows, and has a battery capacity of 3000ma. Plugging it in for 30 minutes gives the phone about a 35% boost in charge, an hour around 70%. USB C might be a bit faster, but how many people need to charge faster than that? It might be best to wait until the quality of USB C chargers improves.

Could you let us all know which USB-C to USB-C cables you get that work with the Anker at full-speed charge? I'd like to have the same set up at home but decent cables seem to be the hardest part to get.

I'm pretty sure this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YRYS4T4

combined with this

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZE36WH8

results in my Nexus 5X saying "Charging rapidly" - I can check tonight if anyone wants...

Yes please. Much appreciated. Who knew it would be so hard to get a fast charge?!

@Zeon as I mentioned previously, $85 online is a bit of a steep price for a Phone Charger in my mind. Most of that cost is the 'Apple Branding' so not really wanting to pay that much for that...

@nzkiwiman Ages ago I had eyed up buying the Google USB C Charger, but as you said since the Pixel was released its disappeared from online. A pain as it was really the only one you can buy in NZ, and now I really need one at both Work & Home. However the Anker Powerport sounds promising, anywhere you would recommend to buy it from as Amazon doesn't ship it to NZ?

@sidefx I've heard of USB C Phones charging at 'Charging Rapidly' when plugged into USB A Chargers, however are you able to run Ampere and let us know/Screenshot what you get. Just cautious as don't want to spend money obviously and find out it doesn't Fast Charge.

@kinginvercargill, @minigopher17 I had a play with the anker charger and the charger that came with the phone. These are the results from Ampere.  First row is with the Anker + Spigen cable, second with the charger that came with the phone.  The anker doesn't charge quite as fast as the wall charger but still says "Charging Rapidly" The "Max USB Curr" when plugged into the Anker also tends to vary (from 2100mA - 2400mA that I've seen) while the wall charger is consistently 3000mA.

Thank you! Looks good enough of a setup to me to do the same for my Nexus 5X to be charging rapidly.

Purchased from Anker on eBay (username is ankerdirect)

Some things will ship direct to New Zealand, others won't .. bit of a mixed bag on what does

Thanks for all the Great Responses. I've decided to go for the Anker 40w Powerport with USB-C on Ebay (with a Figure 8 Cable from PB Tech), a lot cheaper than Apple's $85 USB-C Charger. I do agree with what some have said, as more USB-C Devices start to be launched in New Zealand, here's hoping that we start to get some USB-C Chargers available to buy in New Zealand.

Im a bit late with this but hopefully this will help someone in the future.

I was also looking for the exact same thing for my Nexus 6P about 3 months ago and finally found this. While i have only used it as a secondary charger ive had no problems with it what so ever and it charges at about the same speed as the one that came with the phone. So yes it does display "charging rapidly" and at $37 i didnt find it that expensive considering the apple option.
