I got sick of waiting for the update for my phone (ex Hong Kong) so simply flashed it with the Aussie firmware which is an incredibly simple process.

I always run the non branded AU firmware on my phones.  Saves sitting there waiting for telcos to OK them.

I seem to be seeing this as well, but only occasionally.

Updated yesterday via Xperia Companion. So far so good. Will have a good play with it tonight and see how it goes.

A related subject (apologies if slightly OT).  I have the Xperia M4 aqua, which has been on Android 5.0 for quite a while.  Reading the online forums etc, it seems Android 6.0 was released for this model mid last year - yet I get no updates available either OTA or via the PC application.

It looks like the way ahead is to unlock the booloader and install a downloaded ROM.

Has anyone done this for this model phone?

There is no need to unlock the bootloader to flash official Sony firmware onto a Sony handset - you simply use Xperiaflashtool to download the official firmware from the Sony servers and flash it to the handset which is very simple.

Unlocking the bootloader is only required if you wish to use 3rd party firmware.

Unlocking the bootloader is only required if you wish to use 3rd party firmware.

 

Just some feedback on this in case anyone else is trying to do what I did:

• I did need to unlock the bootloader before the flashtool would let me access the phone
• unlocking the bootloader did a factory reset on the phone - presumably a random glitch, but it sort of needed a clean-out anyway
• Once unlocked, the new OS loaded OK and I now have Android 6.0.1
• Biggest change - the phone now automatically reconnects to my Pebble after losing connection, which is worth the upgrade in itself

I don't understand why you unlocked the bootloader. It is not needed to flash official Sony firmware, and doing so will leave some DRM & NFC limitations as well. It is not a glitch that is does a factory reset once you unlock the bootloader - this is made very clear on the Sony developer site.

This certainly isn't a requirement to unlock the bootloader to update any Sony firmware, and never has been providing you're using Xperiaflashtool. The only reason you'd need to unlock the bootloader typically is to install 3rd party firmware.

I was using xperiaflashtool.  It found the phone, indicated that bootloader was locked, and nothing else seemed possible.  I may have misunderstood, but once I had unlocked, the same tool gave me options to flash a new ROM.
