Hi, just basically a quality brand, Full HD, Smart TV with all updateable apps. I don't need 3D which this set has and I note it has Chromecast streaming capability.

There are plenty of reviews online about the pros and cons of AndroidTV. Have you read any of these yet?

I bought a Sony Android TV over the Christmas period. My criteria for the OS side of things pretty much boiled down to 4 video apps: YouTube, Plex, Netflix and Hulu. The first 3 are supported on all the big brand TVs. Only Android was guaranteed to support Hulu, as I was able to sideload it.

I'm happy with my choice. It does a good job of those 4 video apps, acting as a Chromecast receiver, and Freeview. It ties in well with my receiver with HDMI CEC and audio return channel support. It even knows about the PS3 I use for blu-ray playback (connected via the receiver) and allows me to use the TV remote to navigate the UI and control playback.

It's worth noting that the model you're looking at is slightly dated, from late 2015. I don't know what impact that will have on how it operates, compared to mine.

How long is the Android hardware in it expected to last for, befire it ceases being supported? If it is from 2015, that is pretty old for Android hardware I would have thought. IMO I wouldn't pay any extra just because it is an Android TV, over a standard model

All of the big brand TVs have some sort of smart OS. Sony use Android, Samsung use Tizen, LG use WebOS, Panasonic use FirefoxOS. All of them have the same issues when it comes to updates and reaching end of life.

So long as you use your TV as something for watching audio-visual media, not a general computer, you're probably safe enough from nasties.

Not sure the age of Android TV is relevant. Currently Sony has stated they are upgrading 2017, 2016, and 2015 TVs to Android TV 7. So that means the 2015 TV that is already 2 years old will get the latest OS in 2017 and even if you run it for another 3 years on 7 that is still 5 years use from a TV, which is probably pretty close to the normal life of a TV.

My next TV will be a Sony, I don't need to get a Sony with Android TV but I will because Android TV is great and better than any other TV OS I have used.
