Is anyone a guru on how they work in what appears to be unbranded handsets?

My XZ Dual F8332 which was purchased in Hong Kong and has no operator branding updated from 1 Dec to 1 Feb security patches this morning. This is despite them being out to some variants for a couple of months and the 1 March ones also having been out for over a month.

I presume an operator from the intended region still has to approve an update despite it not being branded to them?

I know I can just flash a different regions firmware . . .

Ditto. I'm still waiting for this

but mines a branded Spark handset

Mr Biddle appears to have no problems though

I forget where I got my X Performance from (which market it was intended for) but seems it had its update released at the same time. I need to unsubscribe from notifications for it . . .

Just download flashtool and search for your model under xperifirm, it should show all the latest firmwares released for all regions of that model. If you like you can even download the other regions firmware and convert it to a flashable ftf to flash using flashtool.

A bit disappointing we are still waiting for the March Security updates now it is just about June.  My Spark Z5 is back on December 2016 for updates.

I flashed my wife's Xperia X Performance Dual Sim (also from HK) with Russian region firmware (this is the rthe region with quickest updates)

Haven't had a single problem, and she received 7.1.1 OTA not long ago.

Also flashing official firmware doesn't void the warranty as you don't need to unlock the bootloader
