Just noticed (and ordered from) Noel Leeming listing HTC U11 Black for pre-order with stock coming early July.

At $1099 which seems good deal as its cheaper than getting from Clove or Amazon

https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/shop/phones-and-gps/mobile-phones/htc-htc-u-11-u-11-smartphone-64gb-black/prod156881.html

Alternatively Expansys list the 128GB model in all the colours except red but not in stock.

Looks like a nice phone. Will be interesting to see if the squeeze feature is useful or a bit gimmicky. Come back and tell us your thoughts when you get it!

Got told by NL head office that they will not have stock until the 15th August. Website still states stock arriving early July. They do not say which year so probably can't complain.

Amazing phone. Anly arguments against it are the overly 'bright' pictures on auto mode and Sense UI, which can be skinned.

the f1.7 can easily go toe to toe with the s8 and Pixel, and given most people post to Facebook which downsamples photos, overly bright captures attention easier.

The Squeeze sensor can be manually adjusted to different squeezes, short/hard/long etc and all indications point to it actually being utilised on the next Pixel as well.

It turned up today, yay!

1st impression:  ooh, shiny! smile

mid: 2PZC10000  (same physical model as UK ie single SIM)
cid: HTC__039

Version in box was 1.03.710.7

Updated straight away to 1.11.710.5

It is essentially the Australia model - in fact the language choice at startup is between AU or US.  No NZ to be found.

I unlocked the bootloader OK, installed TWRP and Magisk and all is good.

The USB-C headphones do sound very good.

OT: Noel Leeming pre-order seems to be a joke.

They stock their shops first and then send your pre-order from one of shops (presumably the nearest).

I could have got it sooner if I had just waited till my nearest store had stock and went in.

Picked one up today, very nice. Good upgrade from the my old M9. Even in an Olixar wallet I can use edge sense. Didn't think it would work but seems ok.

Currently $100 off at NL. Quite tempted as a replacement for my nexus 5x...  though it's still more than double what I've ever spent on a phone. So how are you folk who bought one finding it?

I'm loving it.  It's so smooth performance wise and the physical size is just right for me.

My previous phone was a Nexus 6P which I felt was just a bit too big.

I like HTC anyway having previously had Desire, Sensation XE, One M7, and One M8.  People coming from other manufacturers phones may not find it to their taste or at least might take a bit of getting used to.  Although with the newer versions of Sense its a lot closer to stock android than ever before.

So far the development scene is looking good for custom roms etc.

Couple of minor points:

Sense feels old now but theming is OK.  I haven't switched to Nova Launcher on this phone yet but likely will soon.

Screen protectors don't fit well.  This seems to be a common problem with many phones now with the curved glass.  The one I've tried so far is smaller than the whole screen so it only covers the flat part but is giving me issues with swipe in from left and around the back button.  I'm about to rip it off.
There are ones available that do full screen but apparently have issues with fitting in cases.

Does anyone follow how HTC pricing usually works in regards to price drops? Do they hold their price like Samsung's and iPhones or do they drop relatively quickly like LG?
