What does Samsung's Quick Connect (Galaxy A5, Android 6.0.1) feature actually use to connect from phone to TV? I assumed it was over Wi-Fi, but that doesn't actually seem to be the case. If I am adjacent to the Wi-Fi AP, but away from the TV, the picture breaks up. My Google search abilities don't seem to be turning up anything relevant about how it actually communicates.

Quick skim, looks to be a Wifi direct and Bluetooth implementation.

Well I don't have bluetooth turned on, so definitely not using that. But yes Wi-Fi Direct would explain the loss of signal away from the TV.
