My Nexus 6P died on the weekend, looking at suitable candidates to upgrade to.

Quite like the screen size, other than that, open to all suggestions.

Android: HTC U11, OnePlus 5/5T, Nokia 8.

Else, iPhone is also a good option if you're ready for a change.

Just for my 2 cents, I moved from a long history of Androids - Nexus S, HTC M8, S6, Note4 to an iPhone 6s + and have regretted it ever since.

iOS is a pain in the wotsits and to me feels really restrictive and makes easy things surprisingly complex, yes the upgrade model is WAY better than Android but that's because they only have to support devices designed and built by Apple.

I know it's a love it or hate it argument but I'm firmly the latter.

PS anyone interested in a Apple refurb 64GB iPhone to swap for S8 (maybe even S7 Edge)? wink

I upgraded from a 6P to a Pixel 2 XL.

After placing my order I still wondered why because I loved my 6P but after 2 weeks I have no regrets.

The Pixel 2 XL is in the top 3 in every review I have read and has the best camera without dispute. Battery life is fantastic and performance is outstanding.

@langers1972 I went the other way - switched from Android (a long term user I might add) to iOS on an iPhone 8 Plus. Enjoying it so far, apps are way more polished, battery life is excellent and it gets regular updates. I agree though regarding it being quite restricted but I just got bored of Android.

No matter how good iPhones are, unless they are able to switch APNs they will be out of the question for me. (I know that problem is not common but it is essential for me - until I retire)

You can't change the APN in an iPhone? That doesn't sound right?

OP: Get a Pixel2 XL.  The photos they take are just amazing.  Though I guess that's also true for the iPhone whatever-the-latest-number is.

Once you've had a proper "Pure" Android phone with timely updates and all that stuff, going back to an OEM phone like a Sadsung or a Motohella phone will just upset you.  Candy GUI's and updates once-a-year-if-you're lucky.

The only phones that update in a proper fashion are the Google Pixels or iPhones. Everything else is balls.

Yes you can change the settings of the APN on an iPhone but you cannot add a PAPN and simply switch to and from it.

But aren't you now restricting a recommendation of a device based on your requirements rather than someone elses?

No it was just an addendum to my original reply. I did not at any point suggest that the iPhone was inferior, just that the APN switch is an essential feature for me.

I went with a One Plus 3T and I have been pleasantly surprised.

Former Nexus 6P user, upgraded to the OnePlus 3 last year and it's been an awesome device. Of course, the OP3 is kinda dated at this stage, so I'd recommend one of the following:

OnePlus 3T

OnePlus 5

OnePlus 5T

No Pixel devices as IMHO they're not worth it - unless you're after a really good camera (but the OnePlus camera ain't bad either if you install the ported Pixel Camera APK).
