I have a 2017 Shield with Bluetooth only-remote. I have programmed a Flirc to operate it from my Harmony One. This works fine for all functions except the Home button. This button actually has two functions, and a long press brings up recording and some other things.

This is similar to the Enter or OK button, which also does something extra when long pressed. This long press function on this button also works on the Harmony, but the Home button does not. It does switch back to the home page, so that part is working correctly, but a long press does not bring up the extra functions. It just causes the screen to flicker.

This is just another Shield annoyance I could do without. Does anyone know any way to access these extra functions on the Home button with IR?

It's a Shield annoyance because I keep encountering things with the Shield that annoy me. But I am happy to accept your proposition that the annoyance actually lies elsewhere and the poor innocent Shield is being falsely accused. Now, do you have a solution for me, as per the thread title?

Hey thanks for that. I hadn't seen the first item. The second is fairly discouraging, though. I am frustrated with the Shield because it seems to keep throwing up these kinds of problems and I didn't expect that. I thought it would be more like the generic Android box except better but all I seem to run into are incompatibilities and obstacles. For something that expensive it gets discouraging. Also, the long press does work with the Flirc I have on the OK/Enter button, just not on the Home button. That kind of thing gets confusing and really annoying when it comes on top of a whole raft of similar things.

On the other side, the Shield does have some neat features and I am still discovering them. I just wish it was a little more flexible.

again your blaming the sheild, to me its working fine its your flicr thats not compatible nor your harmony remote.

it seems as though you expect to throw what you have at it and have it work, this is not always the case as you have found out.

the Bluetooth remote still does everything correctly doesn't it?

I get what you are saying but it doesn't solve my problem. This thing is causing me multiple frustrations, of which the Flirc is only one. I bought it to do a job, not to spend weeks fiddling with it looking for workarounds.

I did research it. From the information I had at the time, I thought it would work much like the box I already had. It was promoted as an Android streaming box, amongst other things. Sometimes it can be difficult to know what questions to ask about something until you have experienced it. Now I know better and am trying to make the best of it by finding solutions for the things that don't work the way I wish they would. It appears there is no fix for the Home button issue so I will have to swallow that. Since I now have an answer to that question I am going to move on to other things. Thanks for the help.
