Doing it on wife's Samsung J5 but not on my S5. Doesn't matter if home page is different or switched off.

Thought I would trick it by downloading Chrome Beta and, bugger me, that damned Spark site loaded again.

Not only that, but after the spark screen, the page is full of Stuff news and all sorts of other unwanted feeds.

Switching off all notifications I can see doesn't fix that either.

And, telling it to add a page to the home screen doesn't work, either.

Chrome is possessed!

The J5 is rooted (in more ways than one!) so could delete something if I knew what to delete. But why on earth should it be necessary?

Ideas, anyone?

Edit:- should add the J5 is a Spark one, but so is my S5.

Quite likely something on the CSC file is set up for Spark. Seeing as your phone is rooted, install the CSC features app for samsung by wanam. You might find the entry that is causing the issue. You can edit your CSC file using this app.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ma.wanam.cscexpert

The other solution would be to flash an unbranded CSC (via Odin or custom recovery)

Thanks for the reply. I did download the CSC editor but didn't see anything obvious so didn't 'fiddle' with it!

I have done so much twiddling that I don't know what fixed what but I have now almost got a version of Chrome performing like my S5. A biggie was those damned push cards on everything in sundry. I uninstalled Google Now launcher and they stopped. However, I re-installed it and the push crap has gone!

Only one thing left - the S5 runs the home URL (google.com) every time Chrome is brought back up but the J5 stays with the last accessed site. They both have the Home setting on so no idea why they are behaving differently.

Never thought this would be such a frustrating experience!!
