This youtube teaser from Sony - link here

and, this leaked Xperia XZ2 compact picture below, seem to show the new Xperias will have a significantly curved back. I'll keep an open mind, but I would have like to have seen them stick with the existing design but with significantly reduced bezels. We'll find out next week.

Looks like they're perhaps trying to accommodate a larger battery? If so, I guess keeping with the old design would mean a rather chunky phone?

I think I read somewhere that the Samsung Galaxy S9+ is going to be thicker than the S8+ due to a larger battery also. Could be wrong, running on low sleep today!

I'm looking at moving away from Samsung so the Sony is a possibility.

Pretty uninspiring from the picture - standard cheap android / iphone3 shape?

Is it just me or does it look like it has a screen similar to the iphone X with the "horns" cutout at the top?

That fingerprint scanner on the power button was the ultimate winner, sucks that they're letting it go.

That looks like a reflection on the screen to me. In fact, both bezels still look quite sizeable. The more I look at it, the less I am encouraged by what I see.

Not sure if this legit or not. Bezels big improvement, but I think I preferred the old omnibalance design. And they've introduced my pet hate - a glass back.

I found articles like this one were better than the original link:

If it is a glass back then it will be "reintroduced" as glass backs are standard on the Sony Xperia Z# premium phones. AFAIK, it was only the cheaper non-waterproof phones that didn't have glass backs.

I like glass backs but they do make my phones (Z Ultra, Z2 Z3 Compact) slide even on a flat surface that is only imperceptibly off level.

My pet hates are the lower resolution screens on the smaller compact models - even on the latest XZ1 Compact, 1280x720 simply has too low pixel density - and the occasional overheating that comes with putting the same processors in a smaller package.

The XZ and XZ premium are HDR compliant for NEtflix, one of the few phones that are, I wonder if that will change.

I hate glass backs because they double the risk of glass breakage if you drop a phone (and, let's face it, we all drop phones at some point). But I accept this seems to be the way all phones are going. The latest leak shows the OnePlus 6 will be glass-backed, sigh.

I agree but Ive been putting it down to, I MUST BE MISSING SOMETHING. Like perhaps there is something in the glass back thats super stronger than normal gorilla glass......

I have a le 2 and its still the classiest looking of all my phones, cost me $150 delivered, it has glass front, metal border but a metal back, that makes more sense to me.
