Do the amount of LTE bands a phone supports have much of an impact in regards to a reception on a phone?

Have someone one who was using a Samsung J5 Pro on Vodafone at their house and the reception was terrible but with an IPhone 7 they advise they get reception fine, supposedly the IPhone 7 supports a lot more LTE bands than the Samsung J5 Pro?

According to gsmarena, no. In fact their overall band support is pretty abysmal. I would not recommend this phone.

LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800), 40(2300)

vs the iPhone 7:

LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 12(700), 13(700), 17(700), 18(800), 19(800), 20(800), 25(1900), 26(850), 27(800), 28(700), 29(700), 30(2300), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500)

For what it's worth, the Galaxy S8 supports almost the same bands as the iPhone 7.

LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 12(700), 13(700), 17(700), 18(800), 19(800), 20(800), 25(1900), 26(850), 28(700), 32(1500), 66(1700/2100), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500)

Moral of the story: avoid cheap Samsung devices, or for that matter, any cheap Android device if you want a decent user experience. An older generation flagship will almost always be a better option than a brand new budget phone.

Don't trust GSMArena for LTE band info.

NZ variant is the SM-J530Y which does support band 28. Telcos wouldn't have touched it if it didn't!

While I would certainly expect the antenna design of an iPhone to beat a Samsung midranger, I wouldn't expect it to be too drastically different these days. Question is, although the phone is running a Voda SIM, is it running Voda software?

Thanks for the feedback, phones are supplied from Digital Mobile, Android 7, we install Airwatch. Are their specific Vodafone utils that we can install to help/monitor reception?

Seems to be rural locations we have the issue, phone usually has 1-2 bars.
