The company I work for has introduced 2FA on Office365 /  Outlook.  The problem is that for some reason the native Samsung/Android mail app cannot cope with this.

I've found an article on the Microsoft Support page that talks about using an "app password"; https://support.office.com/en-us/article/create-an-app-password-for-office-365-3e7c860f-bda4-4441-a618-b53953ee1183

The only problem is that this option is not showing.

  • Has this been disabled by policy by our administrators?
  • Has anyone found a way to get the Android mail app to work?

I've installed the Outlook app on my phone but I really hate it.  Not only that, but I can no longer see my work calendar on my Galaxy Gear S3 watch - this is annoying me.

  • 2nd part of my questions; is there a way to get Outlook calendar to show up on my S3?

I'd talk to your IT department if it isn't showing that means they haven't enabled it.

In regards to using the Outlook app, the app as I'm sure you are aware contains it's own internal calendar. That mean's it has no reason to share this data outside of the app.

The only way would be to add your Gmail into your Outlook on desktop and then have the calendars sync across to that and then to your phone which would thens how up on your watch.

You could also use SmartSwitch which has an outlook syncing feature and just select calendars. This would push the calendar data from your computer to your phone which would then show up on your Gear S3. I had to do this for a short time and it worked perfectly.

You need to use the App Passwords to allow legacy software to connect to O365 if MFA is enabled.

This is because the older direct connections (via POP3/IMAP/ActiveSync) cannot use MFA.

If your IT department does not allow using App Passwords, then you will have to use the Outlook App, or just use Office 365's webmail.

Thanks - just had it confirmed that they have disabled the app passwords option.

Currently looking at alternative email app; Nine looks good (around $20 NZ), BlueMail recommended however recent comments have not been kind.

I'll open a new thread for "which email app are you using".

Thanks again for your help.

Why not just use Outlook for Android?

Because Outlook for Android does not show calendar events on my Gear S3 smartwatch.
