Just finished a meeting with Motorola, where they showed me the devices being introduced to New Zealand this year - via PB Tech, JB HiFi, Noel Leemings, Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery and directly via 2degrees.

These are the moto g6 Plus ($ 579), moto g6 ($ 479), moto g6 play ($ 379) and the moto e5 ($279).  I got the moto g6 plus and a moto e5 for review and will be giving these away next month.

All these devices have a tray with dual SIM slots and micro SD. Memory vary from entry level to 4/64. The moto g6 and moto g6 plus have dual cameras. These are not Android One devices but are (from what I've seen) pure Android with no overlays or modified OS. They are being released with Android 8.0 and I am told they should have periodic security updates although no confirmed update for newer version - Motorola is taking an approach of "we wont announce until it's ready".

They should be very good phones.  I recently bought a G5S Plus and for its price (just under $400) it's excellent in every way except the lack of a compass.

Little disappointed to hear Moto did not mention PB considering we're a strategic partner of theirs and the only retailer to carry their full range with store fixtures... :)

Can confirm the lot will be on deck for launch, and that they are very very good.

My wife has the G5. It's not as fast as last years flagships, but it's close. Battery life is fantastic, it's getting minor updates (but not the 8.0 upgrade yet even though it's released in some parts of the world), and all in all it's amazing value.

It was absolutely my fault. They did mention, not once but multiple times. I failed to put in the list above. I have now amended it.

No Moto Z phones?  I am quite invested in the Moto Mods and so I was looking at a Z2. I can get one in the US but it will be missing some local frequencies (as my Z does) but I usually don't notice it that much.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

The Z has an external terminal strip for add ons that attach magnetically to the back of the phone.

I note that the price of the G6 seems to have grown by about $100 over the G5s.

Just playing with the moto g6 now... The camera is really nice, and just got an update from the Play Store with more features.

Antutu benchmark puts it on a similar level as the Nokia 6.1 I also have here, but with double the storage: Nokia 6.1 (Antutu 90488), moto g6 plus (Antutu 90203).

These are dual SIM plus microSD (three slots) all in one tray.

What does the Z2 do that the moto g6 or g6 plus wouldn't?

1. It has the latest Snapdragon 835 processor

2. It supports Moto Mods  (https://www.motorola.com/us/products/moto-mods )  I have 3 of them 1) an extension battery 2) JBL speakers and 3) the pico projector

Annoyingly T-Mobile sells the phone plan-free for US$375 which is a great deal over the Motorola price of $720.

But it's locked to TMO for 2 months - that is you have to have an active SIM in the phone (prepaid is okay) for 2 months and then they will unlock it for you.

I was going to have a friend buy one for me on their trip and activate it but they won't be there 2 months so it would have to be shipped back by somebody else ,

Glad to hear. Moto are a bit of an unsung success story in NZ, the G-series goes gangbusters here. Used as fleet phones by a growing number of businesses.

Moto Display and Moto Actions are quite compelling and hard to move away from once you get used to them.

Z2 Force didn't make it here as would've been too late & too expensive unfortunately. Played with one in the US, very nice indeed. But a 5.5" 16:9 $$$ flagship is a hard sell when everyone else has moved to 18:9.

There have been a lot of Z3 Play leaks with SD636. Looks great. I'd expect it later in the year.

@freitasm: what are your thoughts of the G6 Plus vs the Nokia 7 Plus?

It looks like the G6+ will sit price-wise between the 6.1 and 7+ (NL has the G6+ listed at $579), but I’m wondering whether it’s still worth the additional $70-100 to get the 7+, which seems a decent mid-range phone (and I assume performs better?).
